If I understand things correctly, President Obama could make a recess appointment anytime between now and Feb 22nd, as well as during any later Senate recesses.
I wonder if he would consider at least using that threat to bargain with the GOP.
The problem is that Democrats do not motivate in the same way as Republicans do, specially evangelicals and gun-nuts. The environment where they spend their leisure time is highly politicized. Pastors and the NRA will scare them into voting.
On the other hand, Candidate Cruz can promise that if elected he will nominate a justice that will ban abortion and roll back voting rights, and the people that most likely will be affected by that, won’t notice, and even if they do will find all kind excuses for not even registering to vote.

Our Democracy really is in danger from a number of sides.
I am really depressed now. This issue is going to galvanize the republican electorate ensuring a high turnout for whoever is the candidate. Get used to the idea of President Trump, or even worse President Cruz.

They really think they own the Court. It’s there and it’s duty is to give them what they want. There is of course nothing Constitutional in any of the GOP chatter. They are asking for an extra-constitutional power and to thwart the Founder’s intent. They want that because without it…it’s over. No more Hobby Lobby…no more Citizens United. etc. That’s what’s going on.
I’ll bet the media gives them a pass. " the American People should have a say in this and because of that we should wait until they make their choice in November"…already been said. But I can’t find a media guy reminding these GOP’ers that the American people already made a choice, Barack Obama , and they made it twice. Ill keep looking.

I’m over 50 years old. I can honestly say that too many democratic leaning citizens take things for granted. As long as they have food and their phones work they can’t be bothered with voting. They can’t be scared into voting the way the evangelical talibans or the gun-fondlers can.
I am so looking forward to this!
