Rep. Zoe Lofgren asks Google CEO why she got Trump pictures when she searched for âidiotâ
WASHINGTON â Rep. Zoe Lofgren wants to know why so many pictures of President Donald Trump appear when she does a Google search for âidiot.â
âRight now, if you Google the word âidiotâ under images, a picture of Donald Trump comes up. I just did that,â the California Democrat told Google CEO Sundar Pichai during a House Judiciary Committee hearing Tuesday in Washington.
âHow would that happen? How does search work so that would occur?â Lofgren asked Pichai. The Google CEO â who was at the hearing to address allegations of political bias in his companyâs widely used search engine â said the results are based on billions of keywords ranked according to more than 200 factors such as relevance and popularity.
âSo itâs not some little man sitting behind the curtain figuring out what weâre going to show the user?â Lofgren asked rhetorically. âItâs basically a compilation of what users are generating.â
I donât know whether to laugh or cry at some of the questions asked.The power of having the whole worldâs knowledge in the palm of your hand and they donât understand how and why it works.
