And now, like Battle of Britain pilots racing for their Spitfires, battalions of NYT reporters are heading to JFK with same-day tickets in their fists to go interview GM workers at their kitchen tables about whether they still like Trump.

Years ago, my wife and I would argue about tribalism. That may have been the only time I was right and she was wrong.

You would have thought they would have this in place before their “pivot” to electric cars. Suggests they’re in seriously worse shape than is obvious.

I’ve spent recent years arguing with myself about the cognitive research that shows how our belief formation and decisionmaking are far more emotional and less rational than we’ve led ourselves to believe.

The NFL games yesterday we’re plastered with Chevy ads. (“My Dad works at Chevy.”) they are offering employee pricing to everyone. From what I remember, when they did this years ago, it eats up Chevy’s profit per vehicle. I guess the financing profit is still there.

Trump has made steel very expensive. That’s hurting car makers. Here is a great short WSJ briefing on the Trump tariffs. Americans don’t seem to grasp that importers and consumers pay the tarrifs. It’s not a toll paid by exporters.

Barrasso introduced legislation in October to abolish the tax credit, a move he said would save about $20 billion over the next 10 years. He has argued the market for electric vehicles is already established and “no longer needs the crutch of government assistance.”

Less than 1-2% of vehicles is “established”? That kind of thinking wanted to cut off all subsidies for solar and wind power in its infancy too (and largely succeeded), but of course retain the annual $3-12B for the oil industry.

Got some deep thinkers here in Wyoming.

True but GM has engaged in 5 billion stock buy backs since 2015, basically strip mining the company.
And who benefits from that? That’s right, GM’s CEO, as part of his performance payout is rewarded with GM stock. Meanwhile little to none of it will go to workers’ pay, retraining or new technologies. Fuck GM.
