No one ever thought Clinton or Obama should have unlimited powers. No one.

Can you spell D•E•S•P•E•R•A•T•I•O•N?

How about L•O•O•N•E•Y T•U•N•E?

I knew you could.

Yes, I read it. One of the comments stayed with me as well:

That rally was the scariest thing I’ve seen in a long time. A rabid crowd whipped into a frenzy, attacking anyone that criticizes Donald Trump. I thought Jim Acosta was going to be injured or even killed.

I have no respect for anyone that still supports Donald Trump. Last night made me realize that Charlottesville wasn’t an aberration - that’s the America these people want.

This is a good thread but these two tweets are important.

Has anyone else noticed how their defense has been reduced to what is legal v what is illegal, as opposed to what activities are truly in the best interests of this country? Sure, T rumpp didn’t act with the best interests of this country in mind, but it was still legal!

Of course not and I started to post a comment about that. The GOP has to be aware that if they keep expanding Executive power for GOP presidents, it is also going to apply to Democratic ones, no matter how much they may scream about it.

Lord, how I wish people would take that to heart.

Exactly. Trump doesn’t have to always control the narrative.

I’m sure somewhere there is a ā€œconstitutional law scholarā€ drafting a proposal for Trump to repeal the Magna Carta, though he’s have to be very, very careful not repeal the MAGA Carta.

There’s an interesting point here. Our normal way of accessing what’s going on is by reading the real-time unfolding of events, AKA news. The constant barrage of distractable content subverts that normal epistemological channel. Perhaps what we need to do here is, ah, change the channel. We need to set up formats that look more like a jigsaw in progress and less like a movie playing.

Even scarier is after all the hours of Judge Judy, People’s Court, Court TV, and Night Court the common man has no legal expertise*.

*Law & Order is for third year law scholars.

Why because Comey was too tall and wouldn’t succumb to the Trump handshake?

There are lots of people with the balls to shut down Trump in congress, they just happen to have D’s after their name. Other than the Senate Intelligence Committee, and then really only due to one man’s (Burr, R. N.C.) willingness and the closeness of the Senate that McConnell can’t piss him off, there has been zero oversight.

It may seem odd to say this, but get outside the bubble of FOXNews, CNN, and MSNBC, Trump is NOT getting hardcore pro/con coverage. And they just don’t reach that many people (there were about 120M voters in 2016).

Fox is pulling in at the most (Hannity) 2.9M viewers a day, most of the day it is 2M or less. MSNBC (Maddow) pulls in 2.5M viewers a day, most of the rest of the day its 1.7M or less. CNN only pulls in max 1.1M viewers (which is basically what it gets all day/night.

Morning shows? Trump’s favorite am suck Fox&fiends gets 1.4M viewers daily. MSNBC? it gets 1M viewers. CNN? Only 500K.

People getting news from the late night crew? Colbert draws arround 2.9M/night, Fallon another 2.3M, Kimmel 1.7M, Seth Meyers, 1.25M

These numbers are tiny in comparison with the TV network news shows: ABC gets 7.9M viewers, NBC gets 7.2M, and CBS gets 5.6M.

Inside the bubble its easy to feel that its crazy that Trump is still at 40% approval, but much of this is soft support, and the D’s taking the house, and driving the agenda (which is what it takes to get real coverage beyond CNN/FOX/MSNBC) with investigations, etc, will make a big difference.

The shit show on trump will only start in earnest if the D’s take the house and/or senate
