“Thomas always wrote a lot of dissents, but I think he was kind of making up for Scalia not being here. He wrote so many,” she said.
Somebody has to carry the “I hate humanity” torch.
Alito and Roberts are there to help carry the burden.
God bless you, RBG! It’s so great to hear you say “a few appointments”, because when HRC takes the oath of office, she’ll get to nominate up to 4 justices. Oh, the glory of seeing Madam President shove 4 liberals up the puckered asses of the GOP…well, it’s just about to make me swoon. If Chuck Grassley loses his re-election, I’ll go into a sugar coma. This election may turn out to be the greatest liberal/progressive victory in 100 years, and it’ll be partially due to Donald Drumpf’s clueless campaign and the even more clueless people who voted for him in the primaries. In a twisted way, we might want to send Donnie some flowers and candy for all he’s done for us.
If there isn’t a Democratic majority in the Senate, I would expect to see more blockage by the GOP.
The Notorious RBG!!! Grrrr!!! Go ahead buddy, grab your knife and get in that phone booth with her, I dareya!!!
then everything is up
Agree but afraid to say it until this tough 83 year-old had the guts.
Chickens, people…chickens. Don’t dare count them!
True dat! Was just about to append my post to remind everybody to vote and to get friends, family, co-workers to register/vote. This ain’t over til it’s over and we need to crush Drumpf. Let’s drive it like we stole it!
Unless the Dems take the Senate in '16 or '18 McConnell has already said, verbatim, the Senate will not necessarily hold hearings on SCOTUS nominees by the next President if he/she is a Democrat. He would be perfectly fine to let the court dwindle to the mandated minimum of six Justices required to render a decision.
If Trump becomes President, it sounds like she’s going to do her SCOTUSing from Canada.
Interesting legal conundrum.
Right. Only someone as worthless as Mitch would piss on the Constitution to that degree. We gotta take the Senate in '16.
I still think what has to be watched for is the Congress as far as the Supreme Court goes, not who gets elected president.
I would not put it past the Congress to simply pass a bill mandating the size of the Supreme Court to five justices and grandfathering in the rest, thereby making it impossible for Hillary Clinton to nominate ANYBODY.
I have read some commentary that he intimated along those lines. But missed him actually saying that. Do you have a link for it?
Don’t forget the House…I have no idea who will be the feckless, unadvertised, unknown clown in the KY 4th Democratic slot this November, if any. But, he, she or blank has my vote.
Neither President Obama nor Hillary Clinton would sign such moronic legislation, so you may rest assured that it will never happen.
No they wouldn’t but that doesn’t MATTER.
As the justices die off, the GOP Senate will simply refuse to confirm ANYBODY until they go under the magic number.
Ah - the Notorious RBG, tellin’ it like it is. However I disagree that the public had the wrong impression of Scalia. We, in fact, have to live with the consequences of his votes.
So, how long before the GOP comes back to accept their consolation prize of Garland?
Actually, what the president should do is the SECOND Hillary Clinton becomes president, he should announce that he’s withdrawing the Garland nomination.
OT: but since there is no TPM article on it, new job numbers out today and the a strong. 287k new jobs added in June after a weak May.
