I’m waiting for the first sitting GOP senator to suggest such a thing. Please, proceed.

CaptainCommonsense: Let’s tell Newt Gingrich to go fuck himself.

Newt making it pretty clear that this is NOT about security. After all, the FBI already monitors suspicious activity and maintains lists of people it worries about. They may not carry out these tasks as well as they should, but I think we can all agree that they do a better job than a congressional committee could.

No, this would be about maintaining a high political profile for authoritarian politics, and shaming the wrong kind of Americans. So Newt probably is going to be Trump’s Veep nominee.

Newt’s already got a new Joe McCarthy picked out:

You’ll notice how he conveniently forgot to mention how the House Un-American Activities Committee turned into nothing more than a fear mongering witch hunt.

Did anyone else catch the phrase "Islamic supremacists” falling out of this guy’s hole? On par with White supremacists, he evokes the both sides do it meme even if it’s unintentional.

“We’re going to say, if you pledge allegiance to ISIS, you are a traitor and you have lost your citizenship,” Gingrich said.

I have no real problem with this. However, be very careful for what you wish, Mr. Gingrich. A new version of a House Un-American Activities Committee will likely include the rightful targets like the KKK, the NRA, most radically hate-filled religious sects (remember, homophobic Baptists are every bit as un-American as ISIS and any other radical Islam sects). Any organization that promotes hatred so harsh so as to condone acting out on it would be a target. Is that what you want?

I’m sure his good pal Frank Luntz told him to use that particular phrase.

“We’re going to say, if you pledge allegiance to ISIS, you are a traitor and you have lost your citizenship,” Gingrich said.

ISIS isn't the sole threat to the security of the U.S. Why would Gingrich's pledge list, resulting in a loss of citizenship, be limited to that? I've heard notable GOP and ex-military experts assert at various times China, Russia, the Taliban, Al-Qaeda, Greenpeace, La Raza, Black Lives Matter, the ACLU, NARAL, NORML, the NCAA, Angela Merkel, Fidel Castro, Mexican drug cartels, SCOTUS and several other entities were existential threats to the nation's survival.

We're going to be having a lot of hearings and be doing a lot of deporting.

Mr. Welch: You’ve done enough. Have you no sense of decency, sir, at long last? Have you left no sense of decency?

No, we don't. Last one out the door please turn off the lights.

Oh come on, you know they’ll abolish the committee as “mission accomplished” right before the Democratic Party would take it over…and denounce it as Anti-American to boot, right?

What are the views of the current House Speaker? Where is he hiding?

At long last, Newtie Patootie, have you no shame?

You say that like a fear-mongering witch hunt is a bug, not a feature.

It has been a criticism of the GOP for years that they want to bring back the golden age of the 1950’s, but they forget the ugliness of racism and lockstep fascism like HUAC.

But no, they remember. They want that too.
