A damn shame, but a great effort. I have the feeling we’ll be seeing more of Mayor Gillum…
I agree, and I’m sure we will.
So when does the betting open on how soon Ronnie De makes his first screw-up? I haven’t much experience with a US Rep. running for and winning their state’s governorship. I would think that there would be a bit of a learning curve there.
There once was a man named Gillum,
Who knew what it took to fulfill 'em.
Though he gave it his best,
Voters had been suppressed.
Even so, he still managed to thrill 'em.
pah DUM!
The more I look at the data, the more I think Gillum blew it. I’m drawn to the distasteful conclusion that Gwen Graham would’ve beaten DeSantis.
Gillum underperformed among latino voters in South Florida. In following his campaign, I didn’t really see the outreach that was needed to earn their votes. DeSantis had a Latino running mate and came across as enough of a conventional Republican that they felt ok voting for him even as some of those folks cast ballots for 2 Democratic members of congress. I think Graham’s center-left outlook would’ve been a better fit.
Gillum got screwed over by third party voters even though he ran a far left campaign in the primary. If you dance with the far left and then try to go middle, you’ll get screwed. He didn’t drive the turnout he needed in the 18-34 group needed to win.
Gillum got into too many direct confrontations with Trump and lost focus on DeSantis in the last 2 weeks. He didn’t focus hard enough on why DeSantis would be bad for the State. He lacked the end of game campaign discipline that is needed to close out races. Compare that to Kyrsten Sinema’s campaign, and you can see the difference. She was called a traitor, a left wing loonie, and faced the usual bigoted crap about her sexual orientation, but she always spoke of Arizona as the first and last things on her mind. It moved voters her way despite the noise.
I think Gillum has to revisit some things and learn from his errors. He also needs better pollsters.
I find it interesting how much attention we pay to concessions. They are simply an acknowledgement of the outcome by the person who has lost, not a legal technicality one way or another. They’re simply good sportsmanship, which is why we are seeing so many people in the GOP not making them.
Gillum and Abrams’ are class acts.
I’m sorry, but just don’t congratulate these mofo’s for cheating and stealing elections. Your right, Doc’d, concessions are meaningless and hold no weight. So why do it? But really, good sportsmanship?
Wouldn’t be better to thank your voters and supporters and staff, praise your state/district/province/whatever and just let the thief know they’re being watched and will be challenged at the first opportunity.
