Discussion: Germany Gives At Least 10,000 Migrants Warm Welcome

Discussion for article #240421

Humanity is on the line and it’s being pushed to the brink. Doing the right thing can and usually does mean more than one thing. Taking in refugees from a slaughter is the right thing but so is looking out for your own nation and your own people. The balance of these things is the goal.
Germany seems to be trying to perform a reparations sort of operation, which is commendable if not exactly on point, while other nations are looking out for #1.
America, I’m sure everyone knows has an immigration problem already, some real and some imagined. We have taken refugees from just about everywhere in the past but the ever more heartless right-wing of America is shooting for a closed door policy, with a kick’em all out side plot. Neo-American patriots aren’t what they once were.
So, America won’t likely do it’s part as has been our tradition and is our history but we will help. Considering the glaring fact that this conflict is an outgrowth of the Bush Doctrine, we really ought to be more accepting and understanding. Of course that would require reason from the right and that is a war all on its own.

Anyways, good on Germany and let’s all hope for the world to come together, not just on this but on all of the underlying causes.

Sad that just two of us commented on this story. It is so tragic and while I understand the slow process that we have here for accepting these refugees, it is necessary. It is very difficult for to see the desperation and heartbreak on their faces. How do you not try to help. I just don’t know how all these people will assimilate or find work no matter where they go.
