The lawsuit has probably already been drafted and Georgia stands to lose big on this one if the governor is really going to hold the line.

Funny…republicans wanted the states to have control over SNAP and now they want the government to take it over…idiots!

We’re ready to defend it if we have to. I’d rather not spend taxpayer money defending something that can be avoided

clearly you are either lying or mentally deficient because you ARE willing to spend taxpayer money ‘defending’ an indefensible position…

This will last for about two days.

And conservatives and the State of Georgia, to their chagrin, will inadvertently end up funding their “mortal enemy,” the ACLU.

I hope this doesn’t continue and escalate as some kind of audition by America’s biggest asshole governors trying to be that melting scoop of shit-flavored orange sherbet Trump’s running mate.

Maybe I’m looking at this wrong, but I thought the US Constitution’s Bill of Rights applied to citizens, not resident or non-resident aliens?

I think he State of Georgia is correct.

And a Merry Christmas to you, too, Governor. In your case I’ll make it Happy Holidays. A pathetic excuse for a little man.

A$$holes.

"The federal government has told Deal that he must roll back his executive order in order to comply with federal law. "

Fuck that. Arrest the motherfucker right fucking now and hold him in jail until he complies. Period. Stop fucking around and letting these racist whackjob reactionary Christian white supremacists walk all over us.

The Bill of Rights applies to everyone in the U.S. Everyone. That’s not even remotely a legal question. Even Georgia’s Attorney General recognizes the Governor is wrong.

Do any of the lawyers here know how long a lawsuit to force compliance with the law will take? I mean it is not like the refugee families can just make do without food until this is settled if it is a long process, so what are the options here?

It’s hard to say, but the ACLU can ask a federal court to enforce the law (or the federal government can too, but they’ll probably let the ACLU do it). A judge can issue the order, but Georgia can appeal for a while if they so choose. I imagine this Governor will eventually get decent enough legal advice to realize this will not go anywhere. This is probably why Texas backed off.

Man, with their guns everywhere and this, they are certainly racing to the bottom.
