She doesn’t come off as particularly bright. Probably explains why she’s risen in the GOP.
Vile cow.
She’ll win.
OK, but will she condemn those in her campaign who are trying to tie Ossoff to the gun violence against Rep. Scalise? That is a “lack of civility” too, right Ms. Handel?
I’ve said this before, I’ll say it again - if it takes the near fatal shooting of a Congressman for them to hold onto a deep red district they are in deep trouble.
I feel sorry for Ben Jacobs. He didn’t want to be the story in Montana, and now he’s the story once again. I am an Ossoff supporter, but find myself sympathetic to some of Handel’s words. I learned of this article on social media, clicked through to read, and find that a journalistic outfit is making Ben Jacobs the story again.
The critique of journalism’s mashup with social media is a legit one. The existence of trolling, spoofing, bot tweeting, and yes, click bait (hi! that’s how I arrived here) means that a medium made for ever present distraction (ohai, notification!) has a way of introducing so many distractions from the central point.
Central point here: Handel is a horrible candidate. Voter repression. healthcare.
(But oh, we gotta talk about Ben Jacobs, who never wanted to be the story.)
So it’s the reporters fault he was body slammed and had his glasses broken. (Glad the glasses are in the Newseum in DC)
Wonder how she feels about rape victims?
Handel: Taking Tone-deafness to a Whole New Level.
"…and frankly, it’s fueled by the fact that journalism is not journalism any more,”
But NOT pointing any fingers!
My god, she’s as dense as a lead containment vessel. Anyone who would vote for this burgeoning bag of bullshit is beyond hope of redemption.
Come on, She was the spearhead for the Susan G Komen foundation to remove Planned Parenthood from ties with non-profit. She certainly has heard of James O’Keefe, a right-wing harasser and criminal. I am sure she has heard of Jesse Waters who did the same thing for O’Reilly.
Certainly the lack of civility has happened with groups with differing political beliefs, but to say that the lack of civility is somehow reached some new threshold shows a lack of historical context.
I think the gutter has been full for sometime. Of course I remember when the GOP stormed the election offices in Florida for the recount, but of course the liberals are to blame.
To the wingers, “uncivil” is presenting them with facts.
"The lack of civility in society as a whole, some of it, I believe, is … fueled by the fact that journalism is not journalism any more,”
Asked if she was pointing “fingers at the journalism,” Handel replied, “No, don’t put words in my mouth, Ben.”
“See, this is exactly what happens and why things are really broken. You don’t listen and you put words in people’s mouth,” Handel told the reporter.
Quoting her words back to her is uncivil. Hannity, who’s he?
I guess the only way to be a civil journalist is to ask no questions, transcribe the half-wits’ comments, and mutter nothing more challenging than “bacon” in response.
I want to be sure I understand you - you are saying that this TPM article is click-bait, and that it was really about Ben Jacobs? Please correct my interpretation as needed.
I was trying so hard to be civil when I tried to take away breast exam funding for poor women when I was an executive at Komen. What don’t you people understand?
Headline about her comments “to reporter who got bodyslammed” puts Jacobs at the heart of this story. Clickbait headline. It worked, too. I clicked through, and went from Oh that so and so woman to reflecting on her words in the situation as reported here.
Now that you ask, I just googled to find the original story. It’s here: https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2017/jun/20/georgia-special-election-karen-handel-journalism-lack-of-civility Which I’ll read. But TPM reported from that story, put a “click me! click me!” headline on it, and the only other links in the article lead to other TPM stories.
Again, there is SO MUCH about Handel that’s awful. Her voter suppression tactics, her women’s healthcare at Komen, her “I don’t support a living wage” are out there. But her words to Jacobs, and the way it’s reported here, make Handel re: Jacobs part of the story, and therefore, Jacobs part of the story.
“The lack of civility in society as a whole, some of it, I believe, is very much fueled by social media and frankly, it’s fueled by the fact that journalism is not journalism any more,” Handel told Jacobs.
Yeah, it’s all Access Hollywood’s fault!
Calling Michelle Obama an Ape in High Heels is just commentary, but asking questions about their positions on the health care bill is uncivil.
Uncivil? The reporter asked about repealing and replacing ACA.
The solution to this is simple: All news should come from the state.
I’m sure we’ll see that soon enough. Perhaps the so-called POTUS will just nationalize Fox and Breitbart.
