Discussion: George W. Bush: 'Pretty Clear Evidence' Of Russian Meddling In 2016 Election

If George W. Bush can see it, everybody should be able to see it.

When even W starts making sense about the state of our country…

Glad he’s acknowledging the obvious, but I still hold him and Cheney responsible for the bs shit they did and haven’t had to pay for or even try to fix. I prefer he try and fix what he did and not try and divert attention away from it by pointing out what the current dickhead in office is doing.

“There’s pretty clear evidence that the Russians meddled,” Bush said at a talk in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates. “Whether they affected the outcome is another question.”

He’s right twice in the same breath — a record for him, I’m certain.

Bush also said that “it’s problematic that a foreign nation is involved in our election system. Our democracy is only as good as people trust the results.”

It’s no wonder he’s giving these speeches in Abu Dhabi. Saying the same thing in, say, Florida (2000) would get him laughed right out of the house.

Bush acknowledged that he tried to overhaul America’s “broken” immigration system, but failed.

I can accept that he’s remorseful about this. Good for him if he said it out loud, even if only in Abu Dhabi.

And as for Michael Milken, the less I say here the better.

Especially coming from a guy that “won” his first election due to election meddling from home!

Edit Wow and maybe his second!

So the Bu$hCo Reputation Rehabilitation Tour continues! Pretty soon Democrats will be chisling his head into Mt. Rushmore, in the mistaken belief that the enemy of my enemy is my friend.

Speaking of Russian President Vladimir Putin, Bush called him “zero-sum.”

“He’s got a chip on his shoulder,” Bush said of Putin. “The reason he does is because of the demise of the Soviet Union troubles him. Therefore, much of his moves (are) to regain Soviet hegemony.”

Said the guy who looked into Putin’s dreamy eyes and saw his soul. If anybody believes that this is anything more than Bush trying to make sure that Trump, and not he, is remembered as the worst president in history, then I’ve got some vintage 2006 mortgage-backed securities you may be interested in, because you clearly will buy anything…

Bush is a war criminal. Now, with that reminder, some would want readers to actually read what Bush has to say on the subject of . . ., well, anything.

Trump makes us nostalgic for W.
W made us nostalgic for Reagan.
The Republican Party keeps devolving.

They have the uncanny ability to make today’s monstrous, far-right whack-a-doodle into tomorrow’s elder statesman. To paraphrase the catchphrase of the anti-bullying campaign, “It gets worse…”

This story run on CNN, The Hill, NBC news ,The Week and the Washington Post yesterday:

Last September, the Department of Homeland Security informed 21 states that the Russian government had targeted their voter registration system before the 2016 election, and on Wednesday, the DHS’s head of cybersecurity, Jeanette Manfra, told NBC News that of the 21 states, “an exceptionally small number of them were actually successfully penetrated.” She did not name any of the states, since the report is classified, but she said she has “no doubt” it was the Russian government, not just Russians, behind the cyberattack.

Obviously, Bush can read.

“Whether they affected the outcome is another question.”

I’m not buying that until a credible investigation is conducted.

Pretty damn good for a war criminal.

Seriously, though: I’ll take it. As wrong he was (and surely still is) about so many things, he’s right about all this, and he’s shown more than a shred of decency in recent years (unlike Cheney). I’m grateful for that. And politically, this is a good thing. In particularly, comments on immigration may not help much in the fight for Dreamers, but surely they won’t hurt.

Goddern.

Even though he is still at the now very quaint “well, the Russians clearly interfered in our Presidential elections but there is no proof it affected the outcome” stage of denial of the poisonous illegitimacy of the Dixiecrat GOP and the Trump Vaudeville MC Presidency.

Holy Friggin’ WOW! The heretofore worst president speaks something like truth in oiled up oligarchy sponsored by a Reagan era greed monster. For this, I need tinfoil hat just for protection.

Now comes that scene in which conservative thinkers finally acknowledge, after all these years, that Bush had lied and that he should not be taken seriously now.

That’s clearly untrue. If Russian interference impacted a single vote, it affected the outcome. It may or may not have affected the end result, but clearly the voter margin was impacted, even if by just that one vote.

And they impacted much more than 1 vote. Russian wasn’t going to engage in an operation of that size, cost and effort, with that much potential exposure, if they didn’t feel quite strongly that they would make an impact. It was simply a matter of how big of an impact, and they had a big one.

It was considered successful enough of an operation, that they are ratcheting it up to do even more in 2018.

I was quoting George Bush there if you didn’t notice the block quote. Myself, I am pretty sure they affected the election. To what degree is a question that can only be answered with forensic examinations of all voting equipment in suspected states. I doubt that will done in a non partisan manner under this administration. Even if they already know, I’m pretty sure it’ll remain classified.

Gotta love Tillerson’s mealy-mouthed statement in a recent interview that, yes, the Russians interfered in the 2016 election, but there’s really nothing we can do to prevent it from happening again.

“I don’t know that I would say we are better prepared, because the Russians will adapt as well.”

Thanks for your confidence in American ingenuity, Rex.

Ahem, IIRC he saw a lot of WMD somewhere… I didn’t see them… why is he commenting now ?
