Discussion: George W. Bush: Media Is 'Indispensable To Democracy'

On the bright side, former POTUS Buchanan is giddy in his grave to see that he’ll be moving up a notch from the bottom.

“I’m not THAT stupid and crazy, I really am not, miss me yet?”

Did I read somewhere that Ted Nugent is running for senate?

Yes, but I thought this statement by him was very telling:

“Power can be very addictive and it can be corrosive, and it’s important for the media to call to account people who abuse their power.”

The man learned something about himself and offers an oft-told cautionary tale, which will continue to fall on deaf ears, of course.

@spencersmom > Did I read somewhere that Ted Nugent is running for senate?

Oh, brother. He and Curt Schilling can run together…

into oblivion.

I’m glad that he added, “independent,” because media–like Pravda–is also essential to authoritarian and totalitarian regimes.

That he said, “hold people like me” to account shows the difference between him and Trump. He has at least some grounding in reality.

W Demands.

George W. Bush demands answers on Trump and Russia

But, Bush says, “I think we all need answers … I’m not sure the right avenue to take. I am sure, though, that that question needs to be answered.”

How far have we fallen when the man whose entire presidency was an ongoing, and largely successful, campaign to cow, coopt, and subjugate the press and decertify it as an institution with a constitutional role now rallies to its defense? His presidency was the absolute nadir of American journalism and he and Rove worked very hard to produce that nadir.

Yeah, well trump is on Putin’s side on this one.

I ever thought I’d consider W the voice of reason. Will wonders never cease? Have we really sunk that low?

Cheap shots? What cheap shots? W deserves every criticism we can throw at him.

Yeah, I’m not sure what he was referring to when he bemoaned the “divided media.” Some tell the truth and some don’t?

W, appointed president by the Supreme Ct., gave us Cheney (or was it the other way round), Rumsfeld, ISIS, Patriot Act, housing bubble, the list goes on. He can talk about media all he wants, but there is no post-presidential respectability possible for him or his admin, replete with war criminals as it was/is. Trump may be aspiring to new lows 1 month in, but eight years of W is still rock bottom in my book.

The worst is yet to come, I fear.

Every whore wants to forget the whoredom and wake up a vestal virgin; W is no different.

I’m sure W could speak with experience about the benefits of having a VP who runs everything. W may have thought that trump Jr’s offer to Kasich to let the VP run the whole show was actually a fine idea.

No, not respectably. He hid away in shame, as he should have. He started fake wars that killed hundreds of thousands of people, expanded the federal government to enrich his cronies, blew a massive hole in the budget by cooking the books, ignored Katrina and left us with the worst recession since 1932. He has no moral authority to say anything. He is a complete failure and should shut up except to apologize for the pain and misery he caused.

So after trashing our country and sowing misery throughout the world, he learned what everyone else already knew. I’m so glad we’re providing a kindergarten for these learn-on-the-job Republican presidents.

They sure were indispensable in destroying Al Gore in 2000!
[/quote]That was such a parallel election. His non-election, selection by Scalia included other similar features of democracy.

  1. Institutionalized voter suppression
  2. Getting Nadered from the left by an unapologetic wing of the “Democratic” party
  3. Unrelenting superfluous news narrative that itself becomes news: “the re-inventing of Al Gore” vs. “Hillary is a liar and her e-mails”
  4. Political disinformation during the recount abounded, Brooks Brothers riot, shutting down the vote to protect the vote. etc.
  5. A gratuitous smear of John McCain. Bush went after him in SC primary, Trump took a swipe at him for no good reason well before voting started.

A lot of similarities in W and Trump’s run, I will say that to W’s credit that he ran without the KKK’s endorsement.

I guess W forgot all about how Cheney planted false stories and then touted them on the Sunday shows.

ETA: Or how he refused to let the media publish pictures of the dead soldiers caused by his little war. Liar. Hypocrite. Just shut up. You’ve used up all your capital, you undeserving asshole. No one wants to hear your opinion on anything.
