The Financial Times has named philanthropist George Soros person of the year for being “a standard bearer for liberal democracy.”
Trump isn’t going to like this.
I couldn’t be happier.
I love this…and ESPECIALLY that it comes from that ol’ ‘lefty’ publication the Financial Times. This’ll frost some…whatevers.
One, count them now, 1 capitalist billionaire that 1) appreciates open societies (like democracies) and 2) supports this concept with real dollars.
Almost like the exception that proves the rule. In the spirit of the holiday season, wishing for a time that I am wrong.
This is great. The bizarre hatred directed at Soros has always been so misplaced. It’s hard to come up with someone more transparent and less Machiavellian than Soros, and he’s the chosen target for every conspiracy theory?
I know this won’t move the needle for the wingnuts – it will confirm the Financial Times is part of the conspiracy!! – but it must still be a slight consolation for George knowing the whole world isn’t against him.
I can already hear them choking on their impotent rage. It’s pleasant
See! Alex Jones was right! They’re everywhere! everywhere!
Strangely, I can see the Trumpeteers (and Friends) drinking actual Kook-Aid laced with XXXX if they think the Forces of EVIL are closing in on them. So far, it’s only Bunker Mentality.
5…4…3…2…1…
There is Buffet and a few others in that pile too. Bezos deserves some credit and did Jobs before he died, though as with anyone they were/are far from perfect. Not all billionaires are bad. Not all non-billionaires are admirable.
We went to dinner and then to the Kennedy center last night and our taxi driver drove past the White House on the way there.
I was shocked to see there were no flames after the Flynn debacle.
Rumors of seismic activity though…
Look what Roseanne Barr said about Soros, got herself fired over it.
Like wingnuts like to say: Heads explode! but now is theirs…
This morning Breitbart Radio called him “the most evil person in the world” -no kidding.
If you don’t mind, I’d rather not look at anything the lady says. I am using the term lady in the widest possible sense.
Whoda thunk the Financial Times was part of The Deep State!! We better get Sheldon Adelson to invest some more money to uncover this fever swamp.
I was watching a PBS show the other night about stand-up comics transitioning to sitcoms, and they were interviewing her (recently, judging by appearance) and she was calm, sensible, intelligent, funny… It was kind of strange. Was she well medicated at the time? Ok as long as she’s not hamming for her twitter mob?
It made me kind of sad, I miss that Roseanne.
Cue up the conspiracy tweet storm.
Just to clarify, because I think this might be a bit misunderstood, I am not pointing to any as bad, but I am pointing out there is 1 billionaire that seriously supports basic democracy.
In fact, I would argue that many billionaires have supported just philanthropic causes. A few billionaires are even Democrats. And I am not weighing support of the Republican and Democratic parties in the mix.
I am weighing support of democratic principles and a democratic society. Perhaps the idea is a little too esoteric for it to have common place support. Just, I would not want that as the case, because as we have seen, democratic principles are more fragile than we might think.
That really is the best news I’ve heard today.
They are soon to reveal that the Financial Times is owned by Jewish Bankers.
