Maybe someone cares. Slow news day.
Almost apropos that McCain and Bush are unfortunately in their last days, symbolizing the Republican Party’s lurch from right to hard right into fascism.
The party of Bush and McCain has been dead for some time already.
Let’s not have any talk about - “I hope that mother fucker poots out a testicle and dies.” We’re above that.
Even the Bush POTUS Family, at their absolute worst, were still more honorable, than the current occupant.
A very low bar, perhaps, but H.W. was a legitimate military veteran, so thank you for that.
Better keep the female nurses away from him. He has a habit of grabbing women’s behinds.
That lurch began with Junior, when he used racist dog whistles and outright lies to prevent McCain from getting the 2k nomination, simultaneously ending the era when McCain was actually worthy of the term “maverick”.

That lurch began with Junior,
[/quote]Willie Horton? Fetishizing the American Flag? GHWB entrenched and normalized the debasement of American political culture. Jules Pfiefer once called him Richard Nixon w/o the sense of fair play.
I’m sorry that people grow frail and eventually die but there’s no way to avoid GWHBs central role in making ugliness and win at any cost a core Republican value.
Happened before that. For me, the 2000 primary was the last straw. After their cannibalistic treatment of McCain, I swore off the GOP forever. The hard swing began during the Carter administration, and built to a fever pitch during Clinton’s impeachment.
" I do not like broccoli and I haven’t liked it since I was a little kid and my mother made me eat it. And I’m President of the United States and I’m not going to eat any more broccoli. Now look, this is the last statement I’m going to have on broccoli. There are truckloads of broccoli at this very minute descending on Washington. My family is divided. For the broccoli vote out there: Barbara loves broccoli. She has tried to make me eat it. She eats it all the time herself. So she can go out and meet the caravan of broccoli that’s coming in. "

I actually met the woman from the local Santa Maria valley broccoli growers association who sent the broccoli to Bush. I was struck because I thought it was a hysterical stunt but she was deadly serious, completely humorless about it. Weird.
Fun Fact: Broccoli sales went up 10% because of all the publicity.
A sickening, obscene moment.
And he gave us Clarence Thomas, and he was damnably to be blamed for a lot of other this Reagan and his son rained down on us … so glad my tax dollars are keeping this horrible man alive.
HW Bush was indeed a veteran of WW2 and willing to risk his life in combat which is more than Capt. Phantom Bone Spur can say.
Now here is a case where “thoughts and prayers” is an appropriate response.
I was referring to McCain’s lurch away from “maverick” to obedient neocon. That happened right around that time. I wasn’t commenting on the history of dirty tricks and racist dog whistles in the Republican party. I don’t have that kind of time.
