Cheney suffered brain damage during his 3rd heart attack that changed his personality drastically, making him paranoid and prone to irrational rants. (This is not uncommon BTW.)
You can see this in the speeches he made afterwards.
I agree, History will not be kind to W.'s administration. From how he gained office to cratering the economy as he walked out, his entire 8 years will be viewed as a disaster. He ignored intelligence warning of the worst attack on American soil (and its not like theories about FDR and Pearl Harbor; there is no doubt that Bush out and out ignored warnings), launched us into the longest wars in American history (spanning at least 3 Presidencies and probably over 2 decades), completely botched the domestic response to a massive hurricane slamming into a major city, and then fell asleep at the wheel again, allowing the worst economic crisis to seize the nation in over half a century.
Worst.President.Ever.
Note how it’s the “presidency” not America ( which suffered the real pain ) Bush is concerned with.
Excellent point.
This seems to be common trait in most/all presidents. I have seen Obama mentioned the same by comparing his accomplishments to others. It doesnt sound bad mainly because most/all accomplishments have been positive .
I was also surprised to hear from Bill Clinton, few years after he had left office that he didnt feel like he accomplished everything as he had not overseen a major War.
Well said all around!
David Kurtz made a good point. This opens a whole new line of questioning for Jeb!. Do you think that means daddy really doesn’t care about the campaign? Seems like he could have waited if he did.
Damn straight pops!
Didn’t read all the way to the end, did you?
“The big mistake that was made was letting Cheney bring in kind of his own State Department,” he said. “I think they overdid that. But it’s not Cheney’s fault. It’s the president’s fault.”
“The buck stops there,” Bush added, referring to his son, according to the Times.
Perhaps he agrees with his wife.
“I think it’s a great country. There are a lot of great families, and it’s not just four families or whatever. There are other people out there that are very qualified and we’ve had enough Bushes,” she said.
Secretly, I doubt that they think George did the family proud. The “Decider” made some huge mistakes, and the country and the world suffered.
In fairness to HW, this is old news. It is pretty common knowledge that HW felt this way for a long time, and in fact HW was the one who told W to dump Rummy and put Gates in there.
Also, HW used to refer to the neocons as “the crazies” when he was President, and was not pleased that his son’s Administration followed the “crazy”.
I think this is true. I find it interesting though, that a point of pride, was that George the Elder didn’t offer his son advice. He stayed out of it. Maybe there’s some responsibility in there too that he’s feeling.
Indeed, if W had done even a halfway decent job as President, January of 2017 would be the end of Jeb’s second term as President.
First JEB’s campaign implosion, now this. Going to be some interesting conversation around the Bush Thanksgiving table this year.
You think the Cheney girls are talking to each other yet?
“Iron ass”?
Try CRIMINAL
I hope some day this cyborg tries to take a European vacation. Or visits Canada where he also is under indictment.
I hope all of this this keeps Lizzie out of the political picture forever.
It should, as Cheney has even worst approval ratings than Bush did. I also think the Cheneys have burned some bridges and are like crazies ranting in the wilderness.
I’d be curious to see the exact quote on that. Did he use the word “accomplishment”? Or was he saying more he had not “experienced” it, not expressing regret, just saying he had not experienced it?
If you weighed the collective Cheney family soul, I believe you’d require some very sensitive instruments just to get a reading. I can’t imagine any of them really caring about anyone besides their own selves, not even siblings, parents or offspring.
No, seems more like Sean Hannity tactics, just crop a quote to fit your agenda, and leave out the parts that say the opposite.
Absolutely true, even without brain damage. There is pretty persuasive research that people who have suffered significant health crisis, especially cardiac crisis, become far more paranoid. This fits Cheney to a T.
Unfortunately, this is not the kind of thing someone like George W. Bush would take into account. But the notion that suddenly the Bush Clan is going to come clean about how little W. was ill-served by his senior advisors is, to me, a cynical attempt to find a way to soften the negatives associated with the Bush name in hopes of helping Jeb!'s presidential run.
Well, we’re talking about conservatives here, so the answer can only be…never.
They can’t stop - it’s the conservative way!
