Discussion for article #236902
Money = SOBness. Always.
Being gay and donating to Ted Cruz, and fund raising for him, really plumbs the depths of degradation and self-loathing.
So he didn’t know that Cruz was anti-gay? He doesn’t look like someone who’s been living in a cave for the last several years.
And what is Cruz doing that is so awesome for Israel? He’s a transparent, self-serving idiot who literally read Green Eggs and Ham into the Senate record in an attempt to deny poor people health coverage. Just thinking about Ted Cruz turns my stomach.
There are a lot of slices of America that are not being addressed politically.
Why is this still a thing? I suggest using TPM bandwidth for topics that matter.
How much money did this fancy Hotelier donate to Cruz’s Super PAC?
Reisner is a member in good standing of the Log Cabin Republicans it appears.
While Rich White Gay Cis Men have benefited the most from the LGBT Movement, the reality is that it has been the rest of us who have been pulling them along kicking and screaming. By and large, wealthy White Gay Cis Men have had little incentive to actually push for rights because they could easily hire lawyers to handle their paperwork and most people tend to look the other way when it comes to “confirmed bachelors”. It’s been harder for Rich White Lesbian Cis Women to do the same things, and pretty much the rest of us have been screwed over.
At this point, the Rich White Gay Cis Men are more concerned about getting money than they are about getting rights for everyone. Just look at the Log Cabin Republicans and GOProud…they’re almost entirely white cis men.
Gay people supporting and donating their own money to gay-hating Republican, hyper-religious Christian slime balls like Ted Cruz in 2015? There must be something missing in their brains which makes them unable to connect the dots. It’s sort of like American gay Catholics going to church and putting money in the collection plate and not recognizing that they are donating to a worldwide religious cabal working to oppress their LGBT brothers and sisters.
"When I realized his donation could be misconstrued as supporting his anti-gay marriage agenda, I asked for the money back.
Misconstrued??
Hitler was (reportedly) a vegetarian. That still doesn’t make me want to support him. GD, you are one lying sack of shit, aren’t you? Go away.
Um…I realize $2,700 is like leaving a mint on the pillow for you, Ian, but this guy will ALWAYS hate you, you know.
I was going to say: just rename the hotel “The Log Cabin” and cater only to those who have enough money to make basic human rights far less important than tax cuts.
As for this individual’s donation allegedly on the basis of Cruz’ support for Israel, I am willing to bet there are plenty of candidates who support Israel that aren’t Christo-fascist sharia law Taliban homophobes. The combination of tax cuts for the rich and Israel support, however, may come with an inseparable homophobe rider.
But there’s nothing to misconstrue: for $2700, refund or not, you bought the whole package, mister. You can’t un-ring a bell.
Of course he did! Like every other Republican, selfishness trumps everything else!
I respectfully disagree. This is very important to those of us who care where our dollars are spent. These two obvious sell-outs don’t deserve to be enriched by our vacation or tourist dollars. Personally, I care about whether my dollars will end up in the coffers of a right-wing PAC or candidate. Those people work against some of the basic liberties we Americans are supposed to be able to freely access if we choose.
As a white gay male, poor at the moment, I am honestly sickened by these two guys – not for being Republicans, per se, but for their obvious total lack of due diligence on where they put their political dollars. It’s one thing to be a Republican and support the few moderates out there, but to actually financially support and hold these fundraising events for the likes of Ted Cruz!! – Oh, come on, that just exposes these dudes do not give one whit about those of us in the lower economic stratus. They can go fuck themselves with sharp cactuses, as far as I am concerned. Any GLBTQ person who supports these two now are either totally ignorant, totally greedy, self-loathing or just plain evil – Or all of these.
Not being gay myself, I defer to your judgment, however, I think “greedy” needs to be on your list. A wealthy person can afford to carve out the lifestyle they desire without the encumbrance of dealing with society at large. They can weather any storm – they always have. For them, it’s all about driving the tax burden down the income scale.
Perhaps that comes under “evil.” But they’re not ignorant, and not self-loathing. They loathe only their lessers.
It’s not self-loathing when it’s done to fatten your bottom line. You’re superior to the little people who get socked to make you richer. That he lied about it when first asked means he knew if the word got out, it wouldn’t be good for the top line on his balance sheet, even if it helped the bottom line. The BS about support for Israel is just cover for backing the one guy who goes too far on just about everything…which apparently appeals to him.
Ian Reisner’s convoluted logic is so, um, er, convoluted. Cruz supports Israel is the justification??? An event where donations are solicited is not a fund raiser??? Whoa!!!
They don’t care about the Christian part, though. They believe that their money will, as it has always done, buy them enough privilege to be immune from persecution by the likes of Cruz. The Log Cabin Republicans and GOProud were always about that.
They seem to forget that fascist governments don’t spare the rich when they go after their scapegoat.
