Discussion: Gay Couples Ask Judge To Fine Kentucky Clerk Refusing Marriage Licenses

Discussion for article #239992

Bunning now risks looking weak if he doesn’t ask her to follow court orders. His orders. That might actually motivate him to do the right thing.

We’ll see.

Her “God” has no authority in a secular federal or state job. How do you suppose this Christian woman would react if a Muslim Clerk tried to use their religion to deny her the Constitutional rights to which she is entitled? A secular state or federal job does not recognize or care about your personal religious affiliation. If you work in a secular job your religion does not give you the right to discriminate against anyone.

Because she has shown such contempt to lawful rulings, she should be shown NO mercy. I’d go the fine and jail route running together until she relents. BTW what is GAWD’s Authority?

Smart not to go for jail. That would likely turn this douchebaguette (deuce-baguette?) into a martyr. It’s a lot harder to rally around a fine than a jail cell.

Ok then…The Bundy Effect…Ignore the Feds and all is ok…

It also makes the gay couple, the true victims here, look like they aren’t vindictive.

So, the way this works, someone will start her a GoFundMe campaign and she will be able to “retire” by the end of the year with a million dollar plus parachute. God indeed works in strange ways.

I think, like the anti-gay bakers, GoFundMe doesn’t allow someone breaking the law to collect. Not saying there aren’t other methods of collecting, but they aren’t as easy. And if there is a God, then the other sites will be shady and keep much of the money for themselves.

If you’re right, I say make it – the fine $5000 per day and we’ll see how many GoFundMe fans will willing to support her. The fine can always be increased.

I’ve read somewhere on TPM that she makes something like $80,000 a year in her position. I think it would send the strongest message if the fines were calculated to be exactly the amount she earns during the time the fines are in effect. That way she has no claim to being a martyr, she’s just not getting paid since she isn’t fulfilling the obligations of the position.

No, because GoFundMe has rightly declared court-related judgments, etc. an ineligible pursuit for fundraising.

Mullah Davis needs to be with Ayotallah.

I can understand the logic, but this coddling of right-wing extremists with regards to punishment for their illegal/criminal activities in order to avoid making them martyrs is getting rather old.

She certainly has the moral authority to pass judgments on other people’s marriages, seeing as she’s had 4, so far, on which to base her beliefs. She’s living the biblical definition of marriage as being between one woman and 4 men (and counting).

There are 5 Federal Prison facilities in KY. I hope she spends the night in one. It might get her attention on what is the supreme law of the land…

You do have a point. I just posted something about how to prevent her from being able to claim martyr status but the truth is if she’s going to act like a martyr it won’t matter how ridiculous the claim is. And the people who will believe her will believe her no matter how ridiculous the claim is. So maybe we need to forget that and send a stronger message.

And when Bunning fines her (and hopefully sends her ass to jail), he will be tarred with the ‘activist judge’ brush.

Her God, if it gave a shit (or if it existed, you know) could just kill all the homos with lightning bolts over the next 30 seconds.

It would take care of this whole issue, AND it would convince some of us that it actually exists.
