Maybe some folks are getting tired of the Great Penis Hunt of 2017 especially in light of the nation-wide rape going on with tax deform.
There does seem to be a piling on, but more importantly, it seems to be HEAVILY shifted against left leaning men, or at least, those perceived by the right as being left leaning.
While accusations against right leaning men are barely even mentioned or covered.
Haven’t seen much coverage on the MSM, or even here, about either of these stories, for example.
If a business is going to fire someone and give a cause, they should provide enough information to explain the action. Hard, though, to out storytell Keillor.
I’m sure they expected this, and they did it anyway. I’m sure their general counsel was involved. It seems improbable to me that everyone is getting stampeded into this kind of thing when we know it’s a widespread problem and always has been. If it’s taken more seriously in left-leaning portions of society that’s hardly a surprise either. Keillor’s explanation sounds a little thin and “He spoke at our church and seemed nice” doesn’t really mean much either. Is sexual harassment wrong? Do women have strong disincentives to make false accusations? Yes and yes? Then let’s not make excuses for people we like who are called offside. We rightly condemn it when the other team does it so let’s not do it ourselves.
We need to know what exactly he was accused of. It would be best if we could hear from the woman, or women, involved, but if they want to remain anonymous, OK, but we need to find out what he is said to have done and what the evidence is that he did it. He is a beloved public figure. Was he hiding something from us, or has he had his reputation demolished by an incident that was next to nothing? Or something in between?
The problem here is that it’s very unclear what Keillor was called offside for by MPR. It’s not at all obvious if Keillor is more like another Weinstein or more like another Franken. What we heard so far from MPR was “there was a complaint so we fired him”. That’s a bit thin. I’m not exactly defending Keillor, my problem is that I don’t know what he’s supposed to have done, and if he should be pilloried or defended.
The WaPo thing is actually reasonable, the conflict of interest there is unquestionable.
Almost makes one suspect that some of the sudden flurry of allegations against people on the left is the result of the black ops sewer-dwellers of the right prematurely unleashing a long-prepared hoard of oppo research originally gathered to protect Orange Nero.
In Keillor’s case what has people up in arms is the disproportion between the known charges and the punishment. MPR has an obligation to establish the seriousness of the allegations. Right now we have Keillor’s statement of what happened and if that is the case it didn’t merit dismissal. Zero tolerance has been bandied about as the standard, but zero tolerance of what? The nature of the behavior is important.
The reaction against Keillor by MPR certainly seems driven more by some personal vendetta than any desire to make a good workplace. Destroying the workplace is more than a bit absurd.
Tony Perkins is a fundamentalist Christian perv. It is well understood that guys like Perkins chase teenagers to impregnate them in the name of Supply Side Jesus. The guy from Oklahoma? Hell man we are talking about Oklahoma. You can get anything off Craig’s list, its OK.
If the left is more driven to cut these people out, then it makes the left stronger in the long run by removing the wolves in sheep’s clothing.
What a mess though. Have to wonder if this is playing out in smaller venues now. We hear about the big names, have companies suddenly become overly sensitive to the issue in general. Are we seeing this in the average joe arena.
You’re brushing aside two quite serious cases against right leaning people. After going hot and heavy after many left leaning cases on this very board.
Speaks volumes to your actual politics.
They really better hope they have a stronger justification than the one mentioned so far.
The Lauer story had the update out within the day that added the necessary detail, so far the Keillor firing appears entirely unjustified to any fair minded reader outside of MPR.
I cancelled my NPR recurring donations during the campaign when they were breaking bones trying to bend over backwards to appear neutral giving every ignorant rural voter a platform to espouse bigotry and ungrounded vitriol. NPR has done little since to get back into my good graces.
I think the left or progressives or whatever you prefer has to demonstrate a serious commitment to women’s rights. We know this is a problem. And we have to guard against overreaction. Difficult, not impossible, vitally important IMHO.
My own experience says this has been regarded more and more seriously, and at least paid lip service to, out in the broad, non-public world.
And at the risk of repeating myself, I’ll repeat myself: There are things that militate against false accusations. That doesn’t make them impossible, but you go try to stand up for your rights and freedom from abuse against a powerful antagonist and see how much fun and profit it brings you. Frankly I’m pretty disappointed to see all this equivocation when it’s our folks under scrutiny. Pretty disappointed, I honestly hate to say.
I am not dismissing the seriousness of the cases. Check your snark meter. I find Perkins particularly offensive because if my memory serves he has a long history of this kind of behavior, is a champion at coverup and he is a hypocrite of the highest order. I think the Family Research Council is a hate group.
Possible, but I suspect it it might just be a portion. I refer to mattinpa on this. I have worked with enough right minded folks to believe this behavior is more rampant on their side than they want to admit. But just watching Moore can give you a really good indicator as to why you are not seeing it there yet. Look at the reaction between Moore and Franken. Franken has created an overload of angst in trying to assimilate his behavior. The Moore side of the house does not have the same effect in action at the moment. They are more concerned about protecting their goal posts than understanding the basic morality and decency of it. They are also wrapped into their God and Party cloak and protecting that as well. When it does catch up, it will be a bear for them to get around.
You know, some of us can focus on more than one thing at time.
To a point it is understandable. Remember, people are getting an overload of this in what is becoming a cultural event.
