From his policy page:
• Tom has received top marks from the NRA
• Tom supports school choice (taking money away from public schools)
Not from his policy page:
• Orders congressional staff to clean up dog poop
• Voted to curb regulations that guard against another Great Recession
• Voted to delay ozone standards
With positions like these, I might be more concerned about Garrett if he did not have a drinking problem.
Tends frequently to be part of the overall pshyco-emotional package, and of course that wrestling bout with humility can be a long one.
ETA: While he seems to be taking the first step, the subsequent eleven are just as important, and necessary.
I am shocked that we don’t have more representatives who are suffering from substance abuse issues of one kind or another. Just think about the lives they live and the number of times they have drinks shoved in their faces. There is also a well known culture of alcohol use in Washington that has been rampant since the founding of the city. Lobbyists do love to ply their targets with drink.
“The tragedy is, any person—Republican, Democrat, or Independent—who has known me for any period of time and has any integrity knows two things: I am a good man and I’m an alcoholic,” he said. “This is the hardest statement that I have ever publicly made by far. It’s also the truth.
The way that statement reads, it appears that he is saying that being a good man is bad, you know, like being an alcoholic. And if you’re a Republican’t, admitting that you’re a good man must be as difficult as admitting you’re an alcoholic…
He’s an assh*le, and he’s an alcoholic. And he should have had the self-knowledge to recognize that his alcoholism disqualified him from public office long ago.
And no, being drunk or hung over or blacked out doesn’t excuse you from basic obligations like taking care of your dog or your kids. You don’t get to tell your staff to do it because you were incapable.
So how long until he resigns? If he’s serious about admitting his alcoholism, he should be in treatment now, not clinging to office for another 8 months when his constituents need full-time representation.
Congressman Dirty Dog makes him the 20th GOP Cocksucker to announce he’s leaving compared to six Democrats.
Seven are quitting outright.
10 are leaving to run for another office and of those ten, one got primaried by his OWN party 13 days ago.
I don’t care for making political predictions as I was convinced Whiny was going to lose in 2016 but as far as the GOP Cocksuckers upcoming performance in the looming midterms all indications are:
Man, I feel you on that one. I don’t dare put too much hope in a Blue Wave this fall. I won’t be able to stand the devastation if it collapses. I’m still not over the shock of November 2016. I barely slept on election night, and it was all I could do to keep from crying. I can’t handle that kind of disappointment again.
