If Cruz was not so much holier than thou, it wouldn’t be much of a story. But as he wraps himself in the Bible, then his conduct deserves scrutiny.
Or you could look to Barbara Walters, who for decades had indiscriminately mixed entertainers with politicians and treated them interchangeably.
How dare she treat entertainers so disrespectfully!
The ones that protest the most and loudest…
It’s all about clickbait. You don’t have to report the story as true, or even directly report it at all. You just say, “Here’s what other media outlets are saying…”
Cha-ching!
It hardly matters if Cruz is caught with his pants down – all he has to do is weep on cue and beg forgiveness from “everyone he has hurt.” His Christianist supporters will shower him with love because they are such forgiving people – they hate the sin but love the sinner – but of course, only if that “sinner” is one of their own.
Also wonder about that Rachel Maddow hyped story about the impending release of the DC Madam johns list – which supposedly has damaging info that will seriously impact the presidential race. It doesn’t take much effort to deduce that Cruz is the one with the most to lose by such revelations.
The Nixon folks called this a mind fu*k.
He doesn’t mention that this is a particularly outrageous example of (attempted) character assassination because NO ONE in his or her right mind would believe that any woman, much less five of them, would have an affair with Ted Cruz. Yeah, I know, power and celebrity are aphrodisiacs, but really!
Several other news outlets have confirmed key elements of C-Section Born Ted Cruz’s hooker dalliances reported in the National Enquirer. I might be willing to bet money there is more to come on the story. Montgomery Sibley Blair, the lawyer who represented Deborah Pelfrey, the so-called DC Madam, is sitting on trove of information that could shed more light into Cruz’ extra-curricular activities.
It’s a variant on a British tabloid tactic. The Sun Says Stop Spreading This Vile Rumor! And prints the rumor. Here they wait for some reptile to print, or for it to hit the 'net–a new twist–and then start reporting the story about the story.
I’m not as sure as Mr. Gabler that the Enquirer is “Discredited.” It seems to me they have a decent track record on politicians’ infidelities. I wouldn’t toss their work here just because they are distasteful.
“…So how did it come to pass that a story like this – again, without credible sources — received wide circulation when it should have received none?”
Oh please! If it weren’t for the Enquirer and the NY Times et. al not running with it, we would have never known about Bill Clinton’s black baby, Arkansas troopers procuring women for his harem he kept in the governor’s mansion, or Hillary’s lesbian lover.
All of which turned out to be true, you know.
Despite the GOTP attempt to force the sheeple t vote for Cruz,
I for ne hope that the story is true, and would love it if his wife left him rather than stand meekly beside him as he dishes out the typical no apology. Vitter got caught. But the dumb shites back home elected him again. No harm no foul. Funny how all house Authoritarian Followers are so ready to get past these personal sins, but if, God forbid, a Democratic pol, like say Clinton did it, why the GOTP would impeach and try him for the crime of being caught. Well now the GOTP has a real problem, pushing for Cruz over Trump, someone who is hated by every single person who knows him, including, if one looks at video, his own kids. Being not only a teahadist, but a fundamentalist religious person, one has to wonder, given the history that we know about both him and his cult, Does he beat his kids? Well
I don’t know for sure, but it sure feels like it’s true. Of course we don’t know if the NE story is true, but given their history in discovering cheating lying pols, and the lain fact that he is a Senator only because he got 17% of the vote, if in fact people had actually bothered to vote, we not only wouldn’t have lying Cruz, we would not have any of those bastard teahadists who got almost every state wide position.
Inanity rules in Texas, with the teahadists in charge, ready to drive the state right off the cliff
Indeed. Rubio had been trying to peddle this for roughly 6 months. I personally find it rather interesting how nobody has bothered to follow up on this, but they can find time to write what is more or less a scold op ed about how they should leave poor Cruz alone because privacy. Or something.
Do the photos of Ted checking in and out of the same hotel with the same woman(women) at the same time every week exist or not? Rubio’s people said they do, and they have them. So investigate and find out if that’s true. At least three of the women have been identified…Pierson, Carpenter and the one that was a senior staffer for Fiorinia. I haven’t read an interview with any of them besides the blow up on CNN with Carpenter…which was really “you did it with him” “Did not!” “Did too!” “Time for a commercial break” and then it was dropped.
If this had been a Democrat they would be scurrying to find every possible angle, and proposing a few new ones out of thin air. As it is, we know Pierson does indeed have a history of close relations with the Cruz family; we know that Carpenter quit being his press secretary right as he declared for President after many years…without much of a explanation. We know that Cruz funded Fiorina’s campaign to the tune of about half a million dollars. That’s rather odd in of itself, but given that a senior staffer may have been having an affair with him…it seems like a reasonable point to pursue.
Yet…nada.
I’m reminded of the Cosby scandal. When actual women start coming forward will they get the attention that Cosby accusers deserved and got; or even the various accusers who were taken seriously enough to make it to court (and lose) who accused Clinton of sexual liaisons?
Larry “Wide stance” Craig believes Cruz.
Hell, you could even write a story titled, “Why The Media Is All Over The National Enquirer’s Cruz Affair Hot Air…”
Cha-Cha-Cha-ching!
Yeah, thanks for the lecture on journalistic ethics Neal. Couldn’t have picked a nicer guy for whom to offer this deep teaching.
Of course, this has been going on for a long time, and it ain’t just from the drudges of society. Newsweek in 1994 ran an article titled “Vince Foster’s Suicide: The Rumor Mill Churns” that repeated the most sensational and unsubstantiated rumors going. Gabler himself has been writing on this them with no apparent effect for decades.
Wow. An excellent analysis of the new, more entertaining MSM.
Welcome to the 2016 Republican presidential campaign…AKA…Idiocracy! ___ And of course the MSM will cover EVERY salacious, childish and stupid insult and foolish move by any candidate. Actually, the National Enquirer is, on many levels, not much worse than the MSM.
Just wait til’ the D.C. Madam’s lawyer releases those taped! Oh Boy! You ain’t seen nuffif’ yet! rotfl
