Discussion: Ga. Lawmakers Introduce Resolution Urging Schools To Show D'Souza Film

Discussion for article #233687

Oh yeah… and then make them sit through ā€œBless the Beasts and the Children.ā€ I had to endure that. Make them do it too.

Anyway, yeah, make them watch this film. The back of the room will be a snarkfest a la ā€œMST3k.ā€ Forced cinema is a gift to the wise-asses. And for the rest… Hey, how much does DD’S get paid for these treatments? Double it.

There should be a requirement that the students be informed that the creator of the film is a convicted felon prior to viewing.

Because fair and balanced.

Are you really willing to take the risk and have GA children exposed to the words and images of a convicted felon? And no, I don’t mean Michael Moore or Roman Polanski…I mean Dinish D’Souza!

Fucking perfect. That was the first thing I thought of too.

I totally agree. Being forced to watch this film could well turn Georgia blue as soon as those kids reach voting age,

Local control, small government, let the experts run things and keep the politicians out of it….oh, election over? Never mind, then.

Yeah, that brown skin will go over big in GA and MS and LA.

According to the resolution sponsored by six state House Republicans, D’Souza made the movie to ā€œcombat the idea that America is a ā€˜disgrace’ to the world.ā€

Funny that. I thought he made the movie in order to fleece myriads of ignorant rednecks and other right-wing nut jobs out of their disposable cash.

Don’t be so sure. This is Georgia we are talking about

I’ll go along with it if they are also forced to watch Fahrenheit 9/11, An Inconvenient Truth, and Ken Burns’ The Civil War. I would even allow them to show the Sarah Palin movie length infomercial (don’t know the name, not about to waste the time to find it) because I trust our young people to recognize crap when it’s shoved in their faces.

Yes, but all three of those films you mention fall under the Georgia GOP’s defined category of ā€œScience Fiction.ā€ movies

Honestly, who in the list of authors that Georgia schoolchildren would be reading has ever said ā€œAmerica is a disgrace to the worldā€? Besides the Ayatollah and Kim Jong-Un and ISIS I don’t know any critic who even remotely says such a thing. Otherwise, we are talking about people who might have called something the US did as wrong and out-of-keeping with America’s stated ideals, which is hardly the same thing.

Unless they turn into a bunch of maroons.

I think they suffer from cognitive dissonance. These are the same legislators who last year passed a bill that was signed by the governor offering Confederate Battle Flag licence plates. What America do they love?

Republicraps promoting a convicted felon. Nothing new here.

Hey, don’t go after the straw man, he can’t defend himself! Besides, it’s only OK to say the US is a disgrace when it tries in any way to limit guns… or provide healthcare… or ensure gender/racial/sexual/religious equality… or maintain the seperation of church and state… or be lenient with civil disobedience… or… oh just never mind!
