Discussion: Fringe Tea Party Groups Organizing 'National Impeach Obama Week'

Correct me if I’m wrong. If the House passes Articles Of Impeachment, that’s not something that the Senate can simply refuse to take up. Am I right about that?

Because President Obama told them to.

Good question. I believe you are correct, that the Senate cannot just table Articles of Impeachment. It’s not just another bill, there is quite a bit of protocol that must be followed. The Senate doesn’t even actually preside over an Impeachment trial…the Chief Justice does.

The Senate can just dismiss the charges, if they wish. In Clinton’s impeachment they held a vote to dismiss, which failed

January 27, 1999
The Senate rejects a Democratic proposal to dismiss the case on a 56 to 44 vote, with one Democrat (Feingold of Wisconsin) voting with the Republicans.

Oh, goodie - I see the birth certificate comes up again on their list of impeachable offenses in the guise of “constitutional eligibility” - that broad definition can also include the fake Connecticut Social Security number, and maybe even who’s his daddy. Would that also encompass his college transcripts?

Pass the popcorn…

By all means, proceed --and do it LOUDLY!

There is also the fact that the vast majority of the MSM media are in the 1 percent crowd. See “Blitzer” and “Gregory” for starters.

The media will only focus on impeachment. Look how the covered Clinton’s. Even now when Clinton’s impeachment is mentioned no one in the media mentions that the Senate acquitted him.

As a fundraiser, they’re going to give away ‘tin foil hat’ bobble-head dolls to anyone willing to contribute at least $100 to their cause.

Official GOP response:
“Pay no attention to the impeachment-fixated, tea-chugging fanatics behind the curtain.”

Back during the Ford/Carter election, my brother-in-law’s mother (who was living in Atlanta) was working for Carter. She had a ‘re-elect Ford’ pin on. It took me awhile to understand why she had a Ford button when she worked for Carter.

The mindset of wingers is such that I really can’t tell if this is delicious snark or if it is serious. Really, I can’t.

Bless their hearts for holding “impeachment” clusters in every state … for the ex-cons who can’t travel as terms of their probation/parlole :stuck_out_tongue:

Just waiting for these maroons to start dropping stuff from overpasses… break out the lawn chairs and popcorn.

Even that is taking action though. With a regular House bill, the Senate Majority Leader can refuse to take any kind of action.

Why don’t they just call it “National Lynch a Nigger Week” and be done with it instead of all this shilly-shallying and self-justification?

Actually, Ford was the only president not elected to EITHER the presidency or vice presidency. He was appointed VP by Nixon, with Senate confirmation, after Agnew’s resignation. Other presidents who ascended on the death of their predecessor were also never elected president on their own (John Tyler and Andrew Johnson, for instance.)

"Gerald Ford said after the Nixon was forced to resign under threat of impeachment that an 'impeachable offense' is whatever the Congress will vote for at a given time."

First of all, Ford didn’t say that after Nixon was forced to resign, but four years earlier in 1970 when he was still in the House of Representatives and he was trying to impeach Supreme Court Justice William Douglas. Just another Tea Party attempt to rewrite American history for their own purposes.

The list of reasons is hilarious, particularly the last few which relate to his muslim upbringing in Kenya:

● Governing by dictatorial fiat with lawless executive orders targeting Amnesty, Obamacare, gun regulation, etc.
● Waging illegal wars without the constitutionally-required approval from Congress
● Assassination of three American citizens without due process via drone bombings
● Bald-faced lying to the American people about the Benghazi attack, Obamacare, etc.
● Supporting Al Qaeda and other Jihadist terrorists in Syria and elsewhere
● Encouraging massive numbers of illegal aliens to enter the US for his own political reasons
● Bizarre and erratic behavior, which implies psychological pathology
● Forgery of his identification documents to make it appear that he is eligible for office
● Overall radical and subversive anti-American background, which is confirmed by his actions in office
● Constitutional ineligibility for the office that he hold
