I saw the Elton John concert a couple of months ago, it was so moving. The imagery on the big screens was all about humanity in between close ups and clips of old videos. It was the whole package, great show. I don’t know how you walk out of that show feeling anything but hope for the world. The feeling stayed with me for quite a while, and somewhat still does.
Can’t imagine what dickhead Flynn felt walking out of there.

I am not a big fan of who Michael Cohen was, but I think it is kind of unfair, given the magnitude of Flynn’s treason and the right wing nutjob arrogance with which he chanted for Hillary Clinton to be locked up, that Cohen is going to do 3 years in jail because the SDNY thinks they are God’s gift to humanity and everyone must genuflect before their Supremacy.
Over yesterday I was thinking that a Cohen sentence was necessary to highlight the gravity of what Donald Trump did in the SDNY case and to deprive Trump’s allies of the argument that what Trump did is no big deal because Cohen got no jail time. So I suppose there is that important consideration. But it still pisses me off that Flynn feels so confident and relaxed and will probably get a Papadopoulos range sentence if any.
Two things about this article. It is from AP who spoke only to a few rabid defenders of Flynn so take with a large grain of salt. Also Rhode Island is a hardcore blue state so it is inconceivable that anywhere close to a majority of Rhode Islanders are supportive of Flynn.
Hmm, I wonder if Flynn really should be so sanguine. Yes, I know Mueller has said that as little as “no time would be appropriate,” but I wonder if the judge will see it that way.
I don’t think it does Flynn any favors to be sentenced directly in the wake of the Cohen sentencing. If I’m the judge at Flynn’s sentencing, I’d think Flynn’s service and military record mean he should know better than to engage in the crimes detailed in the sentencing memo, and that he should be held to at least as high a standard as a scumbag like Cohen - preferably higher.
Unless Mueller’s office made a compelling case that they’ll still need Flynn’s co-operation in the coming months, I’d be inclined to give Flynn at least the six months at the high-end of the memo’s proposed sentencing range.
American hero. Bull shit. Teachers are heroes. The Parkland students are heroes. The lady at Starbucks’s who gives the homeless guy breakfast is a hero and she volunteers to visit a woman in hospice weekly. Ordinary people in their community are heroes. Something is seriously wrong with this country.
I am just wondering how many conservative christian generals like Flynn and Kelly are infesting our military. I hope that traitors, bigots, religious extremists and racists disguised as christian conservatives and Republicans are weeded out and brought to justice. We earmark billions of dollars in military spending. They should be able to weed out and discharge folks like Flynn and Kelly quickly. America expects and deserves the highest professionalism, courage and integrity of those in military leadership not venomous vermin like Kelly and Flynn.
It’s kind of an apples and oranges thing. Tho I agree that Flynn deserves a very harsh penalty, Mueller has an entirely different agenda than the SDNY does, and if Flynn was being prosecuted by the SDNY for the kinds of crimes Cohen is serving time for, I’m sure he’d get what he deserved. But I do agree with you about the SDNY’s problematic super-ego, which was really what sunk Hillary, by forcing Comey to reopen the Weiner matter when it did.
What I cannot believe is that Flynn and his lawyers have been brazenly challenging Mueller’s tactics and even the facts around his conviction for lying to the FBI…that seems to be really tempting fate. Maybe it’s all part of his cover regarding what he has actually given up to the Special Counsel’s Office or, maybe, it’s his deluded self-justification for going to the dark-side (though that wouldn’t explain Mueller’s apparent leniency)…
I guess we’ll find out soon enough…
