Discussion: Freedom Caucus Chair: We'll Meet With Ryan Before Endorsing Speaker

Discussion for article #242000

They’ll support him. Ryan is smart enough to lie to them convincingly. A year from now he’ll be Speaker, and they’ll be howling for his blood. Perfect timing for the General.

I hope Paul is gracious and offers them a nice chablis and an assortment of Wisconsin cheeses…

Or he hits 'em with MIB memory eraser…and strongly suggest they spend more time with their families.

Jordan: “Ever heard the term ‘Bitch Slapped’ Paul?..or ‘Limp Boehner’?”

Jordan said that he wants to make sure Ryan will usher in "changes we think are going to create an environment more conducive to accomplish what we told voters we were going to accomplish."

What a relief!! Finally, citizen's demands of less taxes on the already wealthy, elimination of work safety rules, destruction of free public education for children, the cancellation of health insurance for 11 million people, an air war in Syria, saber rattling with Russia, oppression and mistreatment of minorities and immigrants, and unfettered access to guns by they insane and mentally unbalanced will be realized! The House will for once mold America into the nation the populace deserves!!! Yay!!!!

To get their backing, Ryan will have to drop his demand for rules changes to disallow removing the Speaker. That one is a deal breaker for the Freedom Caucus.

And if he does that, he is already hamstrung before he even gets elected.

But just as importantly, if you read what they are saying, they are trying to change the entire Speaker position, turning it from a job that requires actual lifting and negotiating, into some sort of figurehead “president” with no actual powers.

They are characterizing Ryan as someone who could be a strong voice for their movement. That isn’t a Speakers job. They want to remove the Speaker’s power to determine what gets to the floor for a vote…that is the singularly most powerful weapon a Speaker has. They want to remove the Speaker’s ability to punish any member of the Caucus.

Those demands make it completely impossible for any Speaker to run the House, and seriously undermines the ability of Congress to play any sort of role in day to day governing.

Ryan: “I will accept the Speaker’s position…IF…I get to have real death panels, give Granny coupons for healthcare, get a week off to celbrate Ayn Rand’s birthday and be at home by 5:00pm every day. Whaddaya’ say?”

You know, if we experience, God forbid, another 911 and Paul’s daughter has a dance recital the terrorists will just have to wait…

I’m mailing a copy of “The Pet Goat” to Ryan’s home right now.

Ryan summarizes his first meeting with the Tea Potty Caucus…ever the optimist it will all work out…

(*In the background, the snickers and giggles of the Tea Potty members can be heard as lil’ Paul leaves.)

How would a President Ryan stand up to Russia if he can’t stand up to his own caucus?

“Because the people who didn’t vote for us and the people who never would have voted for us constitute by far the majority of voters, and under the current environment, that matters. What we need is a new environment in which the most extreme, smallest minority of people as crazy as us can do whatever they want, and to hell with the sensible majority. That’s what we call Freedom. Because we’re basically adolescent assholes.”

Perhaps he would call in Palin for her sage advice?

(A “President Ryan” is something, at this point, too laughable even to imagine. “Speaker Ryan” is a pitiable enough thought.)

The Freedom Caucus wants to stay secret so its members can deny being one of the assholes with which any Speaker would have to deal.

Bunch of traitorous scum and has nothing to do with FREEDOM at all.

I just love the way these authoritarian, “my way or the highway” ultra-right-wing thugs always call themselves defenders of “freedom.” What a joke.
Either they will destroy the Republican Party (not really a good thing in a two-party system) or they will destroy the country. Either way, these people are dangerous beyond belief. It’s time for Republican moderates, and those with some degree of common sense, to challenge the Tea Party directly.
Oh wait . . . there are no moderates or people with common sense in the Republican Party. There goes that idea . . .
