Actually, I think Tucker will find that what is more common amongst his educated friends is a contempt for his particular perversion of Christianity rather than a fear of it.
The attacks on science and education just keep coming from the right, which is wrong on all counts. This is the second story today attacking rational thought.
So this is where Fox is today
Boko Haram (“Western education is forbidden”)
Thanks Tucker.
Exactly, A friend of mine who was studying to be a minister lamented that Christian hadn’t enjoyed any significant persecution for a long time. She was looking forward to the next Great Christian Persecution. She said that Christianity was founded on persecution and it remained integral to spreading their religion.
Tucker, we want names! The reality is that there is no shame to this kind of out right lying.
So don’t do well in school, kids. You’ll get smart and end up hating Aunt Bee and her Bible!
So educated people are opposed to ignorance and superstition? Now there’s a surprise.
You guys are all science deniers! All of you!
Well let me see if this atheist can get this right. The Good Book says “do unto others as you would have them do unto you”…or something like that. So if these guys are comfortable making negative generalizations about academia…educated folks and the like…they should expect that to be done unto them. So what are they bitching about?
I know correlation is not supposed to be causation, but…
The problem with this “Christianphobia” thing is that it sounds absurd until you start talking to someone who believes in it, and you realize that their definition is so different than yours. If you think wanting prayer out of schools in the United States is “Christianphobia” well then yeah, it’s epidemic.
It’s not Christianity that’s the problem. The problem is that professed Christians pay so little attention to the teachings of Christ. It’s not so much that Christianity has failed as it is that it’s never been seriously tried.
I’m educated, and a Christian, and I don’t look down on myself.
I DO, however, want to keep far away from our public education and public policy, people who believe in literal interpretations of the Old Testament, whether it’s in regard to science (evolution) or equal protection (gay marriage). Those people, to me, are the same as fundamentalist Muslims - equally clueless, and equally dangerous.
Fox News host Tucker Carlson decried the “educated” people who
perpetuate “Christianphobia” – the fear of Christians – during
Sunday’s “Fox & Friends.”
A phobia is, by definition, an irrational fear. Why would Tucker Carlson believe that educated people would be more likely to have an irrational fear of Christians than their less-educated neighbors?
Perhaps Mr. Carlson simply doesn’t understand the meaning of the word, “educated.”
Makes you wonder which version of Christianity he’s on about. The religion is not exactly a monolith but splintered into thousands of sects. I suspect when tucker talks about Christians he is not thinking about Coptics, Eastern Orthodox, or Catholics. I am sure when his crowd talks about Christians they are not thinking about mainstream types like Methodists, Lutherans, or Episcopalians, either. The only group they seem to think are true Christians are the particular hard line fundamentalist sects which they belong.
Once again, Tucker shows his ignorance. Main stream Christians are not phobic toward other Christians or anyone else for that matter. We are embarrassed by the fundies that deny science, home school because they fear public education, don’t believe in honest sex education and force their narrow beliefs on others by improsing themselves in secular issues, put other kids at health risk and want special government priviledges to cater to their religion.
All throughout history the forces of evil have viewed “education” (especially “scientific” education) as the greatest of evils because it challenges their absolute authority.
The American Taliban is no different. They are convinced that: Education is EVIL, Ignorance is Bliss.
He hits all the major buzzwords in one breath: elite / media / Hollywood / academics.
I hold actual Christians in high regard. It’s just that of the thousands of people I’ve met who claim to be Christian, I’ve only met forty or fifty real ones.
