Smith’s take is basically correct. The problem with asking Trump about his thoughts or positions on various matters is that he has none; that he will say whatever he thinks will work for the time being; and that the only information is you’re getting is what Trump has said. You get a word salad served on a particular occasion.

We should all keep in mind that in not showing Trump laying out his agenda FOX avoids showing how much Trump has reversed himself since Nov. 8. He’s walked back more than half of what folks found great in him. FOX is also keeping that secret.

You lose your job when your ratings go down. His are very high, he’s a top notch guy, and they don’t want his ratings going elsewhere.
I like that he is on there. Gets a lot of viewers, and the people who watch him do not watch Hannity. It’s good to get some sanity on FOX. He and Chris Wallace to me are excellent. Wallace was by far the best debate moderator. I’d love to see Shep moderate of Presidential debate, it would bring some energy and spark to them. The guy has excellent presence.

By Fox News standards Wallace is good and he did get the candidates to focus on issues more than the other moderators, but Wallace is still a product of Fox News. Every question he asks is phrased and framed from a (more traditional, not Trumpian) Republican mind-set. He is unabashedly biased, but more of a news-man than the clowns–somewhat reminiscent of Britt Hume. His job is to give the network an air of legitimacy.
That old adage about the stopped clock applies here, except that it always seems to be Shep Smith who rings the chimes.
