Discussion: Fox's Chris Wallace, Shep Smith Cast Doubt On Trump's Iran Strike Claims

Yeah - “proportionate”? How long did it take tRump to learn to spell that, let alone pronounce it? I think he’s back to using ghost writers again.

I know that “Trump is lying” is the default setting here, but I’d like to offer another scenario. One that doesn’t make Trump look any better, but allows for the possibility that Trump isn’t flat out lying.

And here it is…

Trump ordered a “proportionate response” – assuming that would mean few, if any, casualties. And he left the details up to Bolton and Haspel.

Who promptly ordered up a disproportionate response.

So its go time, and Trump starts asking what exactly the attack plan is – what are the targets, what kind of bombs, how many casualties are expected…because he didn’t need to know any of that before. But now that its go time, and he’ll have to “talk to the nation” he has to become familiar with the details.

And the generals don’t have the casuaty numbers in front of them, because they expected that Trump had been briefed on this already. So they get him the numbers, and Trump freaks out.

And the attack is interrupted.

I just hope the military is paying attention. Their commander in chief is very happy to throw them all under the bus. All of them. Not just the prisoners of war, war heroes and gold star families.

Maybe at Esper’s confirmation hearing we should ask how why he failed to include the casualty estimate in the initial briefing. He either lies to Congress or poisons his relationship with Trump (earlier than expected).

How about this: Trump was repeatedly told that the air strikes would result in about 150 casualties, but he failed to comprehend …

Imagine if this idiot was a WWII general with decision-making powers. Get out the vapors!

From February 19 to March 26, 1945, on a tiny island measuring just 5 x 2.5 miles (Iwo Jima), 21,000 of 22,000 . Japanese defenders were killed. Americans wounded about 20,000 with 6,800 killed.

By that post trump reveals his ignorance about how the military plans things like a strike on a radar installation or a misdile bsttery. Casualty estimates are at the front of the paperwork he should have been reading weeks ago. This isn’t a tv show and he won’t get do-overs.

Just the thought that Trump would even understand the word is what stood out to me. But yeah, it is too big a word for Two Scoops. But he did increase my vocabulary with “bigly”.

I just don’t believe that the Resident cares one bit about death and distruction that doesn’t directly affect him.
Putin, Hannity, someone told him not to.

It is just to be expected that Trump’s supposed explanation for the decision, and the changing of the decision, doesn’t make sense. What I am wondering is if the military had really started to prepare based on actual orders, or if the whole thing was just a charade. It may be that Trump was just trying to get the news cycle to shine a light on him (see how strong and decisive I am) or he was hoping to scare the Iranians into negotiating with him. (And by negotiating, I mean capitulating, since that is all he knows.)

This sounds like the most plausible explanation. “See, I didn’t end the world? How bad can I be?”

lets square that circle.

Putin/Hannity told Trump to order a proportionate response–and explained that meant “few if any casualties”. And that is what Trump ordered – and couldn’t be bothered getting briefed on the details of the attack until it was time to get his picture taken in the Situation Room, just like Obama did when they got Osama bin Laden.

and he called it off when he found out that Hannity/Putin’s orders had not been followed.

Will the military advisors be so upset by Trump’s version of events (making them look incompetent) that someone tells all? I sure hope so.

To whom would this be intended to appeal? There is far too much evidence to the contrary, in regard to his actual personality, and thus we would not be fooled. His own base would simply find reasonable and human to be negatives, although I suppose IOKIYAR always applies.

If it was ever actually in the works at all, I am still betting on Putin getting the word to him to back off. That explanation, of course, looks bad for Trump, so various Fox hosts may be trying to take the credit in an effort to give him cover.

News came out this morning that he heard from Tucker Carlson who impressed upon him why it would not help him politically to go to war with Iran.
