Thank you for saying this. He may have taken things to Trump a couple of times, but every one of his questions was framed through the lens of the right-wing filter. He may not be unabashedly pro-Trump, but he is unabashedly pro-Republican and a product of his employers’ bias. I thought it was nauseating–although it could have been worse.
I loved Morley. He was a great journalist and excelled as same. He loved what he did and worked until the very end.
By the way, what a crappy job by the ‘non-partisan’ debate committee. How do you let one of the debates be moderated alone–the one where you allow the moderator to pick all the questions–by a Fox News host.
Wallace is the only moderator who Trump Thanked onstage for phrasing an attack on Hillary in the form of a question: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-fix/wp/2016/10/19/you-heard-that-right-donald-trump-said-thank-you-to-a-debate-moderator/
Oh yeah, it is extraordinary how supposedly reasonable people accept that Social Security and medicare are “in trouble” while forgetting all those problems could be easily fixed by an adjustment in the cap.
No…Wallace was a total Fox tool, and even then, he couldn’t help Trump.
FIFY
Yes, Holt’s finance questions, like Wallace’s, were also based on “analyses” and financial assertions from Social Security enemy Pete Peterson’s Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget.
And Holt, as a registered Republican, is just as much hoist on his petard as Wallace with regard to Conservative bias.
You might be interested to know that the cool kids don’t watch cable news anymore, and to understand who watches Fox can be discerned by looking at the commercials.
Otherwise there are very courageous people at places like Media Matters who watch Fox so you don’t have to.
And there is conjecture that Murdoch will be abandoning Fox News after the election, because of the expense of settling the suits that Ailes left behind, as well as the culture which has made it just unprofitable to have a rape culture part of media outlet.
Wallace certainly isn’t the worst of the worst at Fox, but as a “serious journalist”, for him not to utterly condemn the slanted fact-averse chicanery that goes on around him is to truly be “The Good German”. Does he not even see it?
“We have had to fight back for a lot of years against claims that we’re an arm of the Republican Party. We aren’t.”
I am sure many remember that famous Daily Show years back when Jon Stewart showed an RNC press release and graphic complete with a significant typo which subsequently showed up as news during a Fox News break (Jon showed the video). A press release/propaganda piece spoon fed to Fox which immediately turned it into “news”.
Ailes was a Republican political operative working for Nixon who was outraged that the liberal media forced Nixon to resign. He vowed to start a “fair and balanced” network that reflected his (Republican) point of view, and then he hooked up with Murdoch to start Fox News. He also had particular animus for the Clintons, since Hillary was an attorney on the Watergate case; she was pretty young and played a minor role.
So the purpose of Fox “News” was never to report news; it was to generate a continuous stream of Republican propaganda into America’s living rooms.
I thought Wallace did a fine job. His dad would be proud. Now that he’s proven he can be objective, it’s time to move to another network.
Wallace is such a phony. Here’s what he said when Ailes was ousted:
“Roger Ailes is the best boss I’ve had in almost a half a century in
journalism. I admired him tremendously professionally, and loved him
personally. He and Rupert came up with the idea of Fox in the beginning,
and as sad as I am for Roger to go, I can’t think of a better person to
keep the vision of Fox News going than Rupert. … I intend to stay at
Fox and work for Rupert as hard and as loyally as I did for Roger.
“There are people in tears. I shed mine a couple of days ago when the
stories started to come out, that made this day seem like it was
likely. I never knew a boss who transmitted a sense of mission, a team
of common purpose, more than Roger did. And the thing that’s different
from any place I ever worked is, people feel a personal connection to
Roger, and I think a lot of people feel a deep sense of personal loss.”
I know!! Wallace even doubled back, giving Trump the opportunity to correct his stance. The hints were as broad as the side of a barn, but Trump stupidly doubled down on his biggest mistake of the evening.
Well, Fox News has been an extension of the GOP and Roger Ailes has always operated it as such, with Republicans becoming talking heads after losing seats. But I will give Chris Wallace credit for being a good moderator and asking questions that were even addressed in the previous two debates.
So you missed entirely that his questions were framed in terms of right wing talking points? Sounding “objective” is lousy substitute for actually being “objective.”
Amazing that is what is promoted as “objectivity” in this brave new world that has such creatures in it.
Those were always revealing and hilarious! I also loved Stewart’s montages of FOXbots all using the identical phrase within the day. It was leaked by a FOX insider that Ailes held a daily conference call in which he dictated the correct phrasing to use for every big news story, and sure enough, those phrases would roll off the tongues of every bobblehead for the next day or two. Their “reporters” had one source - their boss!
That’s true, I need to give them all the credit they deserve!
The first question out of his mouth used the right wing propaganda term, “partial birth abortion” to set the tone for the debate. He may feel that he is not a tool of the Republican party but his choice of words made it very clear that he was still carrying water for them.
With that said he should be given credit for his “management” of the debate. He did better than most keeping the audience quite and the discussion moving along.
Chris, Chris, Chris.
Just like everything else on Fox News, just cause you say something is true or not doesn’t make it so.
Sorry.
