Discussion: Fox's Bill O'Reilly: 'High Powered Weaponry Is Too Easy To Get'

Hmmm … I smell a coordinated effort here.

ISIL: This is deeply troubling. 2nd Amendment gives full right to buy any gun, including Assault Rifles. FOX was supposed to be our friend.

When you’ve lost BillO…

Not like this is gonna change anything…but it’ll be fun watching Billy be accused of being a liberal for a few days.

Something about politically correct?

Yup. Too bad, things of this significance only happen when Rich Right Wing masters decided that its time. Its a pure political calculation.

Looks like we’ve reached a tipping point. I would have thought it would have been Newtown, but I’ll take it.

Billo’s change of heart came after someone sent him this video…

Fear of Muslims outweighing love of guns?

(Anyone remember how gun control efforts were spurred by white folks realizing that black folks could get guns too?)

Well that was something you don’t see everyday.

Colbert gave him every chance on Monday to say this and O’Reilly wouldn’t do it and just wanted to talk about Muslims. What changed?

Billo sensed the change in which way the wind was blowing on this issue, so he came out with a mealy-mouthed statement that he can easily walk back when this issue fades in about three weeks.

He’s an opportunist first, last, and always.

We don’t necessarily need the hand of big brother to put his thumb on the scales to slow down the commerce in highly efficient killing tools. If we just tweak the liability laws slightly and make the rightful owner of the killing tool liable for the downstream damage and require that any seller have proof that the buyer is financially capable of absorbing the potential risk In other words require evidence of liability insurance before any weapon is legally transferred. This way it is up to the buyer’s insurance company to do their due diligence to estimate the risk associated with putting a efficient machine designed for killing in the hands of the new buyer. If the insurance company discovers that the buyer has been investigated by the FBI as a potential terrorist or is suspected of domestic abuse (or anything else they may deem to be a predictor of future behavior) then they will either deny the buyer coverage or charge so much in premium that the transaction never happens.

Of course, insurance companies being private entities don’t need to pay attention to such things as due process or rules of evidence before they make a decision as to the buyer’s risk… They could just as easily look at such things as anonymously reported road rage incidents or previously expunged DUI convictions to score the potential buyer’s anger management skills and could set the premium rates accordingly. And since such tools as semi-automatic or easily converted automatic weapons would carry with them the potential to inflict much, much more damage one would expect that they, since they would be responsible for paying for any future harm, would be very careful with scoring potential buyers and they would price even the most vanilla of policies commensurate with the risk.

“Can’t we hold true the sanctity of the Second Amendment while still having common sense?”

The NRA has become a death cult.

Like those underground mutants who worshipped the ICBM in Beneath The Planet Of The Apes.

They should change their mascot to Kali.

Ahhhh…so NOW this is ‘acceptable’. I thought when a Dem voiced this EXACT SAME THING it was because they were trying to take away your Second Amendment Rights?

I’m glad they are advocating open discussion of this finally, rather than “Obama/Hillary are after our gunz!1!!@!”

But O’Reilly is still stupid. Watched his interview on Colbert the other night. He advocated Congress declaring war on Islamic Radicalism. Really? We are going to declare war on an idea? Islamic Radicalism will never die out just like Christian radicalism won’t. (not saying they are equal evils, just that there will always be extremists in every religion).

What a great way to have more perpetual war.

Of course the insurance market would have to be regulated, too. Otherwise, you would have religious discrimination and opt-out clauses (e.g. if you “lied” on your form, or exhibited symptoms of bigotry etc.) It could get tricky but the idea in general sounds like a step in the right direction.

The AARP offers health insurance for older people. The natural party to offer gun insurance would be the NRA, don’t you think?
