Discussion for article #245226
I donāt understand this concept of a media behemoth directly challenging a Trump statement. Itās too unfamiliar and unsettling.
I find it both astonishing and pathetic that some (thankfully few) commenters here support the idea that, by virtue of throwing a childish tantrum and doubling-down with misogynistic attacks, Trump has earned the right to prescribe the parameters of the debate, and that by refusing to kow-tow to this belligerent boob, Fox News is somehow acting irresponsibly.
I call bullshit. Fox probably has a contract for the advertisers that states once youāre in, you donāt get your money back if you pull out. So as long as they have to pay for it anyway, theyāll let the commercials run. And the advertisers probably willingly and gladly signed it, since they were also riding the Trump wave among the Teabaggers and other Republican reprobates (hey, thereās a good new team name for the Washington Redskins!).
I also call shenanigans, Officer Barbrady!
I donāt support either side. Iām just glad I have a chance to watch two mentally defective primates flinging poo at each other, while the Dems sit idly by, not saying a word, smiling happily while we collectively eat our popcorn and smoke a big fatty in celebration.
I agree.
One other thing: There are enough people in the GOP camp with money to pony up whatever ad rates Ailes would be chargingāin fact, pay doubleā¦they are so disgusted with Trump.
If someone like Trump pulls this off, nothing good will come of this. And I hate FOX ānewsā. The point being, however, that to do this subverts more than one debate.
Meh, Fox brought this upon themselves with their ridiculous press release. Trump was coming across as petulant and childish with his insistence that Megyn Kelly be removed, but Fox one-upped him with their ridiculous press release mentioning Putin.
Trump baited them, and they took the bait.
This really says it all. Itās not about having a substantive honest debate and discussion about the issues facing our country, itās only about rating and advertiser dollars. Shameful.
And this is why Trump has never made money in mediaāhe does not understand the industry. He understands āspectacleā OK; he can attract eyeballs, but he cannot monetize it. Basically, yes, his presence attracts a crowd of rubes. But his absence does not thin the crowds seeking more highbrow entertainment.
Trumpās Downton Abbey, total flopā¦
So Trump lied. Must be Thursday.
Mega media meet megalomaniac.
Makes sense to me.
K-Y Warming Jelly upped their buyā¦
And thus, in one simple tweet, we see the TRUE REASON for FOX to host these debates: ADVERTISING $$$
Anybody who believes a word out of FOX News readers mouths is an idiot, and they count on that for their demographics.
.
Who cares about advertisersā¦i wanna watch as fox news journalistic credibility turn to complete shit.
Iām through with Fox and will vote for Trump just to hasten the end of civilization. Itās time to cleanse the world and leave it for all the animals. Still, Iād love to nail Kelly.
OāReilly was pathetic begging Trump to join the debate/ And that ass on Fox and Friends was no better. Fox has taken a hit on its credibility. I know! I know: I donāt mean TPMers. But my neighbor up on the fifth floor who watches nothing but FUX, is totally perplexed that his favorite guy and his favorite station are in conflict. I assured him: donāt bother - itās just a lovers tiff!!! Fox shows a big dent on its backside! Couldnāt happen to a more unsavory collection of assholes.
Iām watching because Trump wonāt be there.
so trump has moved up his thingie to an hour before the fox ādebateāā¦ you just watch him crash the fox event. and roger ailes keel over after experiencing a massive aneurysmā¦
good gawd, as horrifyingly entertaining this is, itās even more horrifying thinking of the gobsmacked reactions among leaders of every other country on the planet; esp our erstwhile alliesā¦ they must be thinking of ways to contain the u.s. should trump actually prevail and how to secure those nukesā¦
āThe debate is completely sold out,ā according to a network spokesperson. āNo rates have changed and there are no advertisers who have backed out. Prices donāt change once the orders have been placed.ā
Prices donāt change once the orders have been placed is the key statement. I assume that means advertisers can either back out completely or have to pay full freight. They may choose the latter option this time, but Iām certain will put in some verbiage in the next contract with Fox to protect themselves.
