Discussion: Fox Host Pummels Trump For McCain Dig, Suggests It Could Cost Him 2020

“A lot of things going his way…”

Yeah, only if you are a psychopath. Absolutely nothing Trump has done has been good for this country, and the things he’s done wrong are criminal, unethical, and deeply harmful to our interests. Fox can’t even criticize honestly without stroking Trump’s massive ego.

McCain? You think a forgotten insult to John McCain will cost him the election? The derp is strong with this one.

Ignore Cavuto! Keep raving like a lunatic! Please continue to make our case for the 25th, impeachment, or just voting out in 2020! #anyonebuttrump

Maybe he’s been hitting a lot of putts lately?

"So put another way, is the messenger getting in the way of his own message?”

This is really a misunderstanding of Trump. He is his own message. What he gets in the way of is what his party would prefer that he talk about.

So what is wrong with insulting McCain is jeopardizing a second term for this asshole. Got it.

“or even a Fox News line-up we’re told that he clearly doesn’t entirely embrace.”

So…should he be able to dictate who gets canned over there are the Crap Canning Factory? It’s astounding he even thinks to say this.

More to the point: a whole bunch of these same people have been angry with McCain ever since his (perceived) slights of Sarah Palin during/after the 2008 election.

So, yeah–Cavuto is still speaking as though the GOP hasn’t become a cult of personality for Trump.

I mean, probably not, but I don’t think it’s going to win Trump any voters who weren’t already solidly in his camp.

It’s one thing to make a play for the base, but their votes don’t count double if they’re extra super extremely ultra happy you’re owning the libs right and proper.

Do I think there are some people who voted for Donald Trump who are made somewhat less inclined to vote for him by his pitiful, boorish attacks on a dead man? Yes, I do.

Fox has mastered the art of putting words together that seem to make internal sense for only a vanishing second. Forget the absurdities sprouting from this thing like a mad chia pet, just look at the nice “logic” here. Or put another way, same does not equal different, moran:

"…is he the one who is ultimately getting in the way of himself and his party? … So put another way, is the messenger getting in the way of his own message?”

Knowing McCain, and how he referred to his wife, I’m sure he leveled some doozies, though likely well deserved, at Palin.

Waste of ink (for us). But a sop to Trumpers who still imagine themselves “mainstream”.

Given the gnat-like memory of the ‘conservative’ voting public, I think its long been forgotten.

That’s pretty well certain. Game Change made those people so angry because it was told from the McCain camp’s POV, and there was little love lost between them and the Palins behind the scenes.

Is anyone else starting to wonder if these “pummel]ings]” of Trump by Fox hosts is all part of the plan. (“See, Fox really is balanced, these people criticize him!”) The criticism is generally just critical enough to come off as critical, but not so robust as to create blowback from the hordes.

Covuto misses the point. Yes, Trump is a disgrace . We all know that. Nothing new here. Even Trump’s COS has long since acknowledged that Trump is a terrible human being. Trump’s psychopathology is not the core problem, it’s the psychopathology of the conservative minded who would have someone like Trump as the leader of their country, that’s the problem.

Cavuto neglects to note that the president also has a lot of things coming his way.

Trump is talking to a narrower and narrower subset of the Republican faithful. A lot of Republicans remember John McCain. The further from his death the closer to sainthood he is in their memory. By Tweeting these comments Trump risks diminishing the enthusiasm of those Republicans who have fond memories of McCain. Trump truly is stepping on himself. Will it cost him votes, probably not, but it will hurt with enthusiasm among some.
