Ultimately, Tantaros would rather double-down on the “sexism doesn’t exist” canard than support a fellow GOPer.

Yet another mangled quotation. What Harkin actually said:

“You know, in this Senate race, I’ve been watching some of these ads,” Harkin said, according to video of his remarks. “And there’s sort of this sense that, ‘Well, I hear so much about Joni Ernst. She’s really attractive, and she sounds nice.’”

“Well I gotta to thinking about that," he continued. "I don’t care if she’s as good looking as Taylor Swift or as nice as Mr. Rogers, but if she votes like [Minnesota Rep.] Michele Bachmann, she’s wrong for the state of Iowa.”

TPM seems to have abandoned all pretense of adhering to any journalistic standards, even with the bar set as low as it is by people like Chuck Todd.

It’s a bit of an oversight ( probably intended) to omit that may of Ernst’s supporters have referred to her looks. Harkin’s remarks, when taken in full contexts, are not an illusion to her looks but a dismissal of that being important.

Yes she was faking outrage…that’s all she does is fake.

It is reverse sexism for a woman to be offended by being called attractive when men get called attractive all the time when they are. Women say President Obama is good looking all the time, and he says thank you, thank you very much. Fox is right and wrong at the same time. I think I am going to go to purgatory for saying this.

Frankly, I’m a little outraged that anyone would refer to Ernst as attractive. Has anyone checked out that thing on her head? I mean, Rand Paul and Donald Trump are like, “Child please!”

And he doesn’t call her attractive. He’s paraphrasing the attitude of other people. He only called Taylor Swift attractive.

Tom Harkin’s remark was fine.

One could similarly say about the Senate race in NH:

Even if Scott Brown is as handsome as Tom Cruise, stop him from joining Ted Cruz.

Harkin’s remark wasn’t sexist against women, and doesn’t say that Joni Ernst looks like Taylor Swift.

My remark wasn’t sexist against men, and doesn’t say that Scott Brown looks like Tom Cruise.

Me too—I don’t think she’s attractive on any level. You could call Central Casting and ask for a superficially unremarkable-looking middle-aged woman who radiated a certain meanly gleeful small-mindedness carried to the point of insanity, and they’d send someone who looked at lot like her.

Actually its very awkward to be called attractive in the workplace. I understand what the Candidate meant that called her that. He used a poor choice of words. Attractiveness has nothing do with work performance for which I think Tarantos needs to get educated on. I was in a radio job interview with a man back in 1986, and was told he couldn’t believe how pretty I was 3 times… I left the interview. Is that what Tarantos wants to hear when she goes to a tv or radio job interview?
