Discussion: Fox Host: 'Bathroom Bills' Are A 'Solution In Search Of A Problem' (VIDEO)

“This seems to be a solution in search of a problem,” Wallace said.

Sorry, wasn’t paying attention, was this about bathrooms, voter fraud, women’s “safe” health care, religious freedom, deadly refugees, rapey immigrants…

Can’t keep track any more.

It’s a statement about trans people using the bathrooms which match their gender. And he is absolutely correct. There is not a single incident in the last thirty years of a trans person using a bathroom to prey on anyone.

But that’s the GOP modus operandi. They do a ton of attacking problems which don’t exist and deliberately breaking things so as to increase their power base.

Fox brings on Ben Domenech to discuss public policy. This Ben Domenech:

In March, 2006, Domenech was named as a blogger for the Washington Post, where he would write from the conservative point of view. But only three days after his appointment, on March 21, 2006, Domenech resigned his position, when evidence surfaced that he had earlier plagiarized work that had originally appeared in the New Yorker, the Washington Post, the National Review, and other publications.

More recently, Domenech was involved in a journalism scandal that resulted in the removal of his work from The Washington Examiner and the Huffington Post when it was disclosed that Domenech received $36,000 from Joshua Trevino, a conservative pundit and lobbyist, to write favorable opinion pieces about the government of Malaysia without disclosing the relationship. The payments came to light when Trevino registered as a foreign agent of the Malaysian government.

I think just about any ax murdering grifter could wander onto a Fox News set and they'd clean off the blood and clip a mic to their lapel.

Sorry, but solutions for which there are no problems are the only kinds of solutions that Republicans have. If they had solutions for climate change or universal health care or gun violence instead of bathroom etiquette or contraceptives or voter fraud, they would actually be an asset to the country instead of an embarrassment.

But only…if they have a conservative point of view . Those with lobotomies qualify also . See: Doocy, Steve

I’m surprised that nobody has suggested that all LGBT people should use separate bathrooms. I mean I just can keep my wild wicked lusts at bay when I enter a woman’s bathroom.

Wallace can’t be that stupid. Bathroom bills are like an alcoholic telling his wife he’s buying a bottle of scotch to use as a door stop. The scotch does solve a problem…just not the one anyone’s talking about. The NC bill was not just a bathroom bill. It was loaded with relief for those that want to discriminate against Gays. Blacks…anyone. It made broad spectrum discrimination much easier and being dealt with for doing it much more difficult. The “bathroom” chatter is like the doorstop. It’s an OK thing to talk about while the real shit…the big shit…is left unmentioned. If Wallace wanted to get down on that crappy bill he had ample opportunity…" Well sir…I can see talking a position against men going into lady’s rooms for sexual purposes a safe one but what about all the OTHER stuff in that bill…"

Not going to happen and Wallace is just running cover.

Sorry, my snark didn’t show. Just pointing out my no shit sherlock reaction to his statement, since the majority of GOP policy positions (and there are not many to choose from) are solutions to completely fabricated and nonexistent problems devised for the sole purpose of ginning-up outrage in their base.

Stranger danger, voter impersonation, dangerous abortion facilities, destroying marriage, refugees are terrorists, Mexicans are job stealing rapists. The only policy proposals they are able to propose are nothing but fever dreams to counter invented boogeymen.

They cannot make proposals for real problems for fear of offending the groups they take their orders from (NRA, fossil fuel, RTL, etc)

It has always been illegal in NC to enter a bathroom, one for your sex or for the other, for sexual predation. This bill was not needed to stop that. So perhaps a Journo should spend some time on what it must’ve really been about.

Believe it or not, I’ve actually advocated for the creation of single seater, unisex bathrooms.

…

but that’s because some people really hate public restrooms.

It’s okay. I have no real understanding of snark, sarcasm or other things like that. So it probably went right over my head.

Well I don’t see how Mr. Domenech’s biography changes this issue. We know about his past but how does diverting to it fix the issue at hand…legalizing discrimination?

Yes, more piss on the toilet seats. It must epic in men’s public restrooms.

Local portable toilet manufacturers should be clamoring for all public bathrooms to be replaced with their products.

I don’t see that I commented on the appropriateness of Domenech’s participation in the context of the issue being discussed. There are dozens of highly experienced, highly educated public policy experts willing to discuss issues on the record. It’s possible to find many without plagiarism and pay for play events on their resume. Would a conference on financial investing hire a speaker that had bilked clients out of their retirement accounts, or been proven to engage in insider trading? Why would they, with so many financial experts free of such a background? Why is Fox News any different? Why shouldn’t they avoid using tainted panelists on their shows when others of superior repute are available?

After having to use too many portable toilets after long hot outdoor public events, I think I’ll pass on that.

Nicely put.

The Republican candidates are doing their level-best to dream up a problem.
