Well, now we know what Putin’s orders to Trump were at their brief meeting at the G20 summit.
By tying it to Obama, Lindsey hopes to goad Trump into reversing course as Lindsey’s normal pearl-clutching has been having no effect upon Cheeto Mussolini.
Won’t work however.
This is Trump’s pretext to “pivot” to Iran and begin beating the War Drums to “Bomb Iran” (at the desperate behest of Netenyahu and with the blessings of Putin.)
But wait … Isn’t that how Nixon won the war in Vietnam? Sure it is. He just said “we won” and left. It’s a tried and true strategy. Once again, Trump is following the path trod by the only US President who resigned (so far).
I don’t understand why American progressives aren’t more supportive of the Kurdish political experiment in Rojava.
How many secular, democratic, feminist friends do we have in the Middle East?
Soooo what about Israel? Are we going to leave them to their own devises, devises we gave them?
Yes, but that was true of Vietnam, Afghanistan, and Iraq too. What’s your point?
Seems like I’ve read several comments by Kilmeade lately that have a hint of push-back and skepticism.
After cheer-leading for Trump for the last couple of years, maybe he’s figured out it’s not a good long term career. It will be interesting to see if he continues his heretical ways.
We should understand that we used the Kurds as our ground forces in the fight against ISIS and we are now leaving them to be killed by Erdogan.
Since the mid-terms, have you noticed the hardline right wing Congressman and media are slowly finding their voice against Trump?
These craven cowards who have been complicit for the last two years are coming to the realization that the country resents them and within two weeks, the party is over. Trump’s pitiful decision making and legal woes are a reality that even these assholes can’t ignore.
Other than Hair on Fire Hannity, Limbaugh and Coulter, the others are turning on Trumplandia. And, even Graham has found his ‘John McCain’ again.
Too little too late, but progress.
Trey Gowdy introducing Ryan:
“We are not equals. You don’t have an equal. People like you don’t come along very often, and when they do they don’t have your humility… If I had one pick as a modern-day founding father, it would be you Paul, It would be you. Of all the people in politics.“
I don’t have a big problem with removing US ground troops for Syria. You can says ISIS is not defeated, but it’s profoundly emasculated and you are never going to totally defeat fanaticism particularly in that part of the world. My concern about this is that Trump is probably not doing this because he thinks its good policy, more likely he’s doing it to favor Putin so that Vladimir doesn’t cut Trump loose just when the heat is on.
We are abandoning the Kurdish soldiers who helped us enormously, who trusted us to help them in return, and who are in deep shit if we let them down.
We need friends for security, and Trump is severing ties with our friends.
As sound an analysis as any other. As someone mentioned up thread, Erdoğan wants to go after the Kurds. Trump is willing to pull the US out to give him a free hand without endangering US troops. This is probably in exchange for getting Erdoğan to back off on MbS and Saudi Arabia so Trump (and Jared) can pursue their lucrative relationship unhindered. Trump’s foreign policy is still strictly based on the principle of “What’s in it for me?”
Trump’s willingness to literally cede the ground to Putin, Erdoğan and Assad is a fatal error and one more reason that Putin and others have Trump by the financial nuts.
Old Russian saying… 'When you grab them by the gonads, their hearts and minds will follow."
Maybe that is just a KGB saying? who knows
Call it what you want but he is simply obeying orders and not from Syria.
Yes. Abandoning the Kurds is the simplistic mantra of the day for great strategic thinkers like Graham and the Host’s of Fox and Friends. For one thing the US has other assets besides ground forces. Also the relationship between the US and the Kurds is and has been a love/hate relationship. They were happy to use us to defeat the Baathists by lying their asses off to us about WMDs. That one cost us 3,000 American lives and $2 Trillion in assets. And If you know anything about the Kurd’s militias you would know they don’t play nice. …And we wont even go into the fact that Turkey is a NATO ally of the US.
More along the lines of what I posted earlier–this from a CNN analysis that mentions a phone call last Friday between DT and Erdogan:
As is often the case with Trump’s foreign policy decisions, there was also a whiff of some kind of hidden quid pro quo.
The Syria pullout order came after a call last Friday between Trump and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
A US departure from the region could potentially give Turkey an advantage in its efforts to pressure Kurdish rebels in Syria and to stop them from bolstering the Kurdish militant group PKK, which it views as a terrorist organization.
In another development that could be connected, the United States on Tuesday approved the sale of a $3.5 billion Patriot missile system to Turkey.
In recent weeks, Erdogan’s disclosures about the murder of Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi in the Saudi consulate in Istanbul have exposed Trump to criticism from Republican senators over his support for Saudi Arabia’s crown prince, who is accused of ordering the killing.
Washington observers will now be watching to see whether Erdogan dials down the Khashoggi issue.<<
From Time, a few years back:
President Trump said that he has a “conflict of interest” in Turkey because of a development there in a 2015 interview.
The interview was resurfaced by Mother Jones after Trump faced criticism for congratulating Turkey’s president Tayyip Erdogan on winning a referendum that increases his power.
“I have a little conflict of interest ’cause I have a major, major building in Istanbul,” Trump said on Breitbart News Daily. “It’s a tremendously successful job. It’s called Trump Towers—two towers, instead of one, not the usual one, it’s two.”
Roh-roh. It’s “executive time,” folks. You’re supposed to be giving trumpy his talking points as he lounges in bed guzzling cheeseburgers, not saying mean things about him! You’re going off-script! Is it snowing in hell?
