I wonder if the NRA will be getting involvedâŚ
âTheyâre your children,â Keaton said. âItâs up to you to keep them safe.â
What about the rights of the gun the NRA shot back.
Adult charged, so Iâm guessing he wasnât white?
And youâd be guessing right!
If only a good 3-year-old had been armed there to stop the bad 2-year-old.
Blame the parents for not enrolling their infant children in a firearm safety class.
Like this 9 yr old was?
sorry - snark meter on overload
What the sheriff said was, and it sounds weasley to me,
âTheyâre your children. Itâs up to you to keep them safe,â Keaton said. âYouâve got to secure your weapons in places that are not common for the children to go to, and underneath the couch in the living room, thatâs a place where my kids drop stuff all the time. Thatâs not a good place to store your weapon by any means.â
I agree that he must have been afraid that If heâd come down harder on the negligent adults the NRA would have been all over in the name of gun freedom.
âTheyâre your children,â Keaton said. âItâs up to you to keep them safe.â
WRONG WRONG WRONG!! The NRA made it very clear: no restrictions on gun use, for anyone, at anytime in any situation.
As long as this 2 year had a âsincere beliefâ that his sister should be shot, then what happened is exactly what the founding fathers wanted. Come on, read the constitution. If only he had found an assault rifle, he really would have been able to protect his Legos!!!
Leaders in the Ranking of States on TPM and Raw Story with the most Careless Firearm
incidents
Texas/Florida (tied) - 13
Pennsylvania - 10
South Carolina - 7
Indiana/New York/Georgia (tie) - 6
Arizona/Ohio/Tennessee tied) - 5
Or as the NRA calls it: Tree of liberty watering race
We see stories on TPM almost daily about people being hurt or killed by guns. We almost never read of someone being charged with reckless anything. I had to wonder why this guy got charged. Before I even watched the video, I knew. Video starts âdamnâ, I was right.
The NRA will not be defending himâŚ
This is Tennessee? Surprising this would even make the news let alone someone get charged.
And what does that have to do with anything? I understand your point, but a child was injured with a gun left laying around where anyone could get it. Even if he âwasnât whiteâ he deserves to be charged.
Totally. I think you misunderstand the point of TeenLaQueefaâs comment, which was meant to point out the all too common double-standard in which authorities are far more likely to bring charges against negligent parents if those parents are minorities.
Edit: Oops. Just noticed the part where you said âI understand your point, but.â Sorry if my comment seems condescending.
The only way to protect against a 4 year old with a gun, is to arm the 2 year old with a gun.
FUNRA.
Guns could be made much more difficult for children and other unauthorized users to fire. Your lobbying is an important reason why such improvements are not designed into guns.
No kidding. The way he phrased it was nuts: * âYouâve got to secure your weapons in places that are not common for the children to go toâ*
The goal should be to make the tragic outcome nearly impossible, not to merely increase the likely amount of time before the child discovers the weapon.
Sergeant Keaton also suggested using gun locks and secure storage to prevent kids from shooting accidents.
