Discussion for article #233548
Of all the Republican temper tantrums, this may be the most absurd. They are threatening to shut down George Wās agency unless Obama caves on immigration. Ha. They donāt seem to understand what leverage is and who has it. If DHS getās shut down, a bunch of Republican border agents will have to work without pay. Immigration will continue as it is funded by user fees. The public will rightfully blame Republicans.
It would make more sense for Obama to refuse to fund DHS until congress codifies his immigration changes and protects Dreamers from getting deported should the next President be a bigot or protectionist fool who opposes immigration.
Republicans will never learn.
Using āmust-passā funding legislation as blackmail tools is a foolās errand, and will always make the GOP look badāand they donāt need any more help when it comes to looking bad.
Right about now the GOP leadership is pining for the good olā days when they could blame the Dem-controlled Senate.
āThe shutdown is the Democrats fault! They wouldnāt blindly agree to whatever we want.ā
They will still blame them.
Since the Texas Court is doing their dirty work for them, the GOPās fools errand being pursued by the house to defund DHS is piling on for nothing really.
Nothing new here, we knew they couldnāt govern, we gave them the chance to show us just how bad they would be.
Because they have been spending all their time trying to figure out how to blame the shutdown on Obama.
I think Republicans are thinking that Hillary Clinton might win in 2016 and Democrats have a chance of retaking the Senate. If Republicans decide to abolish the filibuster this term, it would mean easy approval of Supreme Court justices in 2017, with only a majority vote in the Senate. This would mean we would get much better Supreme Court nominees from Clinton.
seems mcturtleās head is sticking out a little farther than usual from his prehistoric shell.
Could be a good time to chop it off and feed it to a boner is the house.
Donāt expect much change, just 1 less dinosaur to listen too.
āIt was a self-made trap with no clear end-game:ā= GOP standard operating procedure.
Exactly why the GOP wonāt do it.
If you think TSA screeners are rude now, wait until they start working without paychecks.
Same old stuff. Republicans run for office saying the government doesnāt work and when elected prove it.
Yeah, given the 2016 Senate map Iāve always thought McConnell would want to keep the filibuster for his own future use (itās actually still in place for SCOTUS though not other judicial nominees, for now). My only question about that has been whether most of his crazy party would let him stick to that. Pressureās already building on that score, but there are probably enough sane-ish or blue/purple-state GOP senators running in 2016 to let him hold the line. For now.
Abolishing the filibuster over immigration would be an absolute waste of time, and McTurtle knows it. Even if can get the bill passed, the President will whip out his big, blackā¦ veto pen and send it back. And neither chamber has anywhere near enough votes to override. If there were a Republican in the WH, they would abolish it faster than you can blinkā¦
You know they gave us this anti Constitutional, Nazi named agency and thought it was the greatest, most patriotic thing in the world. An agency designed to supersede ALL Civil and Military, forces, departments and agencies in America and ONE GUY gets to control it and that guy is APPOINTED.
What could go wrong?
Then the love cooled when that agency ordered two million small arms rounds a while back but the half white guy was in now and so "conspiracy time!!!"
Now they care so little about the terrorist attack that has still not come that they fool around with our āsecurityā which was so precious to them under, uh, what WAS that guyās name? Bush, yes, they forgot him quickly did they not?
trembling chuckle
Still, I AM willing to help them.
