Discussion: Former Tennis Star Mistakenly Identified, Handcuffed By White Cops

This comment really doesn’t make any sense at all.

Cyber-crimes are not committed by cyber-beings out in cyber-space. They are committed by human beings, aka people, sitting in front of computers, which are physical objects located in the same physical space as the people sitting in front of them. Streets are one of the places where people may be found. What a “street” cop is, as distinct from any other kind, I really don’t know. But yes, cops arrest physical human beings when they suspect them of crimes, and when they do so, they put them in physical steel handcuffs, and they do so on the street, if that’s where their suspects happen to be.

Would you prefer that they send identity-thieves an e-mail? Blake’s arrest was undoubtedly a mistake, but not for any of the reasons you allude to.

Same old shit, he looked like someone who robbed a bank, etc. etc.

Really? I thought, from the account, that the cops – mistakenly – thought Blake was, or might be, an actual criminal. You must be a very deep reader indeed to extract your version of the event!

Guilty until proven innocent.

Meanwhile, a little knocking around must fulfill some macho thingy.

Police offres don’t understand at all, and don’t believe anyone let alone blacks should collect money because of their actions on the job, but thank goodness city officials understand.

Amen to that!! Nothing new here. Happens every single day many many times to black people

Had to tackle him. He could have been packing a bag of Skittles?

After reading some of the Black Lives Matter smears, I can tell you that the problem was not the cops who decided that tackling Blake was their best first option, but African American poverty.

Sorry, but this is exactly the type of ineffective, over-the-top policing that is fueling BLM.

I bet the turds were smirking as they “apologized” and uncuffed him.

Get a grip. There was no mention of iced tea.

But what about the White cops feelings? Can you imagine how embarrassed they must be?
WAY worse than being tackled and shackled for no reason.

The “people” that identifies him probably named him as, “A black guy in a suit.”

I don’t think they “mistakenly” tackled him. I think they did that on purpose. They did, however, use excessive force, which is so unusual for the NYPD.

So he plays Tennis, does he? You know what else starts with a T? THUG!

“You look like someone we are looking for”. “You mean ‘black’”-Jonas the SnakeDoctor on “The Unit”.

Watermelon Fruit Cocktail, please.

Let’s not speculate until we have all had a chance to read the final report. Although I think it may be likely that some kind of beverage may have been ingested by one or more participants to the incident in question, stomach contents are not typically tested at this point in an investigation, and would require a motion by the DA before a judge in order to get an order specifying stomach content examination.

Now, if it turns out that hard, or alcoholic iced tea is determined to have been consumed by any of the parties to the alleged perpetrator’s arrest, it could complicate the validity of the arrest–which would be highly unusual in my opinion, given the high standards of professionalism rigidly maintained by the NYC PD.

And, it seems unlikely that the NYC PD would have tackled a mostly-white-looking black man who was just standing there, unless he had somehow provoked them, possibly with gang signs or in some other way not seen by anyone else, due to the angle, and was only seen by the cops. We can’t rule out this scenario, but it’s definitely not reasonable to assume any of this, at least before we read the report.

There is a form of identity theft that is a cyber crime but that can happen in person. For example, if you have credit cards in your wallet and you have your wallet on your person, there is some sort of device, it might even be a smart phone app, I don’t remember, that can read your credit card information. Say if you’re standing in line at the supermarket or something, someone with this device standing behind you on line could get your credit card number.

Well if these cops didn’t have sharp instincts, he might never have been apprehended but would still be walking around signing autographs and doing his whole black thing with impunity!

Yup. Seems like five cops could question one suspect and maintain control of the situation. They didn’t kill him, so I guess they are making some progress.

And some money. Preferably from the officers themselves, whom can’t tell one backhand from another.
