Discussion: Former Palin Adviser: We Should Be Happy When Anyone Wants To Enter Politics

Discussion for article #229223

Sarah Palin wasn’t in over her head because our political process is too tough on candidates. She was in over her head because she was completely and utterly unqualified for the position for which she was running.

John McCain has done so many interviews, possibly more than any senator in history. Has anyone ever bothered to ask him, “Why? What in *#$%'s sake were you thinking? Aren’t you sorry for what you’ve done?”

So, Nicolle, you’re saying your job was to put lipstick on a pig.

One good thing I realized while reading this:

Even the Republicans who were her closest supporters are now being honest about what a worthless fuckup she was.

Bye bye Caribou Barbie.

2008 isn’t the only year that she has been in over her head.

Ms. Wallace’s frustration at having to teach a middle aged woman the fundamentals of things like world history and geography is understandable, and Ms. Palin’s less than gracious response was foreseeable. It reminds me of Mark Twains comment about the futility of trying to teach a pig to dance: “Its generally a waste of time and only succeeds in annoying the pig.”

Yes, but then she began to fall right into her roll as a grifter. A role she has excelled at.

We don’t need Nicolle Wallace to tell us Palin does not have the right stuff, never did, never will, not smart enough,no intellectual curiosity,no world view. Its very self-evident

Not up for the job??? duh!!!
The hint was when she couldn’t even do the Gov job in Alaska without being investigated for numerous crimes against the taxpayers. Oh, but she was in bed with the oil biggies. The time when she learned the new words, grafting and lying and how easy it is to get unearned money for your own self promotion.
Over her head is an understatement.
GWB ony cried when his bottle was empty or he ran out of pretzels. Another one in it way over his head while cheney continued to reap the rewards of working in the shadows.

And we needed Nicole Wallace to tell us this. Isn’t this a 6 year old story. What is it with TPM and Sarah Palin? Oh wait - I know - click, click, click,

Some of us could perceive these limitations in her development and character from Moment One. And I had never met the woman in my life. But all these things that have subsequently come out and been verified and validated were there for all the world to see, if you had eyes and used them to see. I suspect most Republican men were too busy beating off to SEE her reality.

What John McCain did was profoundly reckless and deeply cynical with respect to the presidency and the public interest. I can only think he was laughing uproariously that he had pulled some kind of rabbit out of his hat at the last minutes when he picked this ‘hot babe from Alaska’ to draw the media’s attention and to look daring and even, dare I say it, progressive. The fact that she was a hillbilly cow escaped him.

True., the remark about those of us who are aware.
But making this known to low-attention cable-audiences is a boon-- to the country.
The sooner her ‘influence’ wanes-- the better off everyone is.

A bit on the late side though?

After all the drama - the recklessness of McCain and the sheer stupidity of Palin - it looks like Nicolle Wallace benefited the most.

It’s no big revelation that she wasn’t prepared. But James Fallows said an interesting thing about her “In what respect, Charlie” response to Charles Gibson’s question about the Bush Doctrine. He said it showed that she basically had no interest in foreign affairs at all, had never paid any attention to it. That’s why I hate hate hate the Tea Party’s antigovernment, all-you-need-is-common-sense thinking about leaders. Ignorant leaders make bad decisions; we knew that before Palin. Every potential employer wants to know if you have any preexisting interest in the day-to-day stuff of the job. Sort of wish the American people would feel the same way when they go to pick what used to be called the Leader of the Free World.

Sarah Palin is stupid. That’s easily observed and well-reported. That she was in over her head was obvious. Equally clear, her narcissism meant she didn’t notice and remained unconcerned.

I think it was pretty obvious when she couldn’t describe what the Vice President’s job is. On more than one occasion. After getting it wrong the first time, most people would look it up. Not our Sarah. The first time I saw her speak, when McCain introduced her to the country, I was just dumbfounded. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing and that was probably the most polished performance she ever delivered. I was amazed that any intelligent, politically savvy person could ever think she was a good pick.
