Let’s make beauty pageants a thing of the past.

Gretchen Carlson: “No woman should be demeaned with such vulgar slurs.”

Hear, hear!

Women should only be demeaned by parading up and down a runway in bikinis and high heels.

As objectified pieces of meat with lady parts, over which a worldwide audience of men leer and ogle.

In surreal, over-the-top, sexist charades like the Miss America Pageant.

But definitely not in emails by contest officials.

Because that would debase them.

Line 'em up and look (ogle) them over.

And if any criticize him later - he’d taunt them with jeers of how they look - on twitter. And his fans would lap it up.

IIRC, the Miss America pageant basically started out as a public parade of high-end prostitutes before demands to clean it up or shut it down. It managed to keep its squeaky clean reputation for a while, but yeah, the intention of marketing women as courtesans never changed.

As far as Gretchen Carlson goes, though, she marketed herself as a piece of meat designed to drive old men nuts. Critiquing the organization that gave her life is a literal “the lady doth protest too much, methinks”.

People running a beauty contest objectifying women. Who would have thought that possible?

Can we please have an end to the blatantly mendacious claims - by former MAs themselves - that the pageant is the biggest provider of college scholarships in the country/world? That one was debunked years ago but will not die.

Mixed feelings here…

“No woman should be demeaned with such vulgar slurs,” she wrote.

Perhaps, maybe, possibly don’t enter a contest about looks if you don’t want to be judged solely by them?

Miss America? That still exists?

WInning is losing for the beauty pageant ladies. They ere either mocked and abused prior to and during the pageant or objectified after.

Make it a, Beauty and Brains’ pageant and the bimbo charges will end or at least be rebutted with intelligence.

Ms. Carlson happily demeaned herself by playing the dumb blonde on Faux News. She sat there with the utter fools on Fox and Friends and pretended she just couldn’t understand things because she was just a girl. She prostituted herself for big bucks and a place in the Roger Ailes/Rupert Murdoch Empire of Mendacity. I have zero sympathy for her. (She graduated Stanford in 1990 with a biology degree and studied at Oxford, thank you very much)

You’ve been talking to Victoria’s Secret models, haven’t you, because they also think that because they sprout wings they’re angelic while going nearly topless and bottomless.

The pageant board seems more upset that the emails were leaked to the press than they are about the misogynistic remarks made by their CEO.

I prefer to let the women speak for themselves as to what represents demeaning behavior to them, not some guy on a TPM comments thread.

On Friday, Atlantic City’s incoming Democratic mayor, Frank Gilliam Jr., and two state Assemblymen — Republican Chris Brown and Democrat Vince Mazzeo — called on the state Casino Reinvestment Development Authority to end its partial subsidy of the pageant, which has about $4 million left on it.

The emails have cost the pageant its television production partner and raised questions about the future of the nationally televised broadcast from Atlantic City’s Boardwalk Hall the week after Labor Day each year. Dick Clark Productions told The Associated Press Thursday night that it cut ties with the Miss America Organization over the emails, calling them “appalling.”

. . .

The Miss America Organization said Thursday night that Haskell has apologized, and that the group is revising its policies regarding communications, adding it considers the matter closed.

Holy crap. United Airlines are masters of PR crisis management compare to these Neanderthals.

[/quote] from a real live female-type person - they’re demeaning and they’ve got to go. And this from a woman who would wrassle an alligator for a chance at plastic surgery. Is it good to be beautiful? yep. do men and our lesbian sisters look at pretty women appreciatively? yep - but this pagaent is about parading yer only assetts for the benefit of empty headed teenage wannabees and men who should know better.

Trump: This is so sad, never would have happened if I was in charge. This shows the importance of carefully inspecting all contestants in their dressing rooms, especially teens, but barely-legals too.
