Discussion: Former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty Announces Run For His Old Job

Wow, a genuine Minnesota kamikaze pilot…

Ah, yes, the classic Democratic-Republican policy pendulum: 1) the GOP cuts taxes, a brief euphoria is enough to gain them re-election, then 2) economic gravity re-asserts itself and the Democrats come in to clean up the mess. Once the economy has regained its footing, 3) Republicans come along promising to cuts taxes. Lather, rinse, repeat.

Usually, however, the Republicans aren’t cynical or stupid enough to put the ringleader of step 1 forward to carry out step 3. And even if they are this time, I’m very certain that Minnesota voters aren’t dumb enough to buy it.

Plus, Blue Wave!

So, when is Jesse Ventura jumping back into the fray?

Floyd Olson is rolling in his grave…

Actually, he’s too busy consoling the ghost of Bob LaFollette to bother with grave-rolling.

So, will he spend two SOLID YEARS running for President again like he did in 2010-2012?

The ads just write themselves against him;

Job loss
Deficits
Chaos in the State legislature
Arrogant Bible-Thumping and demonization of any political opponent
Being absent from the job for the last two years of it
annnnndddd his latest stint as the CEO of the largest lobbying group for Big Banks (that would go over well I’m sure.)

I’m sure he thinks his Evangelical street-cred will carry him to victory like last time.

Please Proceed Governor.

What the everloving fuck is a “Sam’s Club Republican” anyway?

As a Minnesotan, I have some mixed emotions.

He will be able to grab a bulk of the GOP contributions and does have somewhat of a “moderate” reputation and might therefore be able to keep some of the suburban voters that would have turned away from any connections to trump.

But I think the Democratic turnout should be enough to defeat him.

I just hope the republican infighting draws some good blood.

Pawlenty O’ Nuthin’.

I don’t get it. He’s 71 years old. He’s making a darn good living as a lobbyist. He can probably retire and go do something fun. What compels him to do this? Is it really just about ego? Reclaiming his reputation? It’s kind of sad.

Dayton is 71 not Pawlenty

Now a Dollar Store Republican I get, but Sam’s Club is lost on me, too…

No…he is only 57. The current governor is 71.

Oh, whoops. Thanks, I mis-scanned the article.

But still, he’s 57 and making a million a year, he can retire, etc…

I’m not sure why you are replying to me.

T-Paw in da house!
3 acorns say he doesn’t make it to the primary.

One that is cheap and insistent on buying as much plastic crap from China as they can fit into their oversized gas-guzzling SUV.

If you have to ask how much it costs, you can’t afford it.

Wait . . .

Upper-Middle-Class Suburbanite/Exurbanites who are over-extended on all their credit, terrified of losing their middle-management jobs, and can’t quite afford the shiny SUVs and Extended-Cab-Pickups they drive to salve their job-bruised manhood and mollify their Sorority-Wifes who doesn’t understand WHY she can’t buy that new BMW (like her friends just did) instead of the 2-year-old Honda Mini-Van she has to drive the 3.5 kids to daycare/soccer practice/dance lessons/hockey practice in every day.
