Discussion: Former Israeli Ambassadors Say Netanyahu Should Cancel Speech

Discussion for article #233268

So there you have it - but will Bibi listen? This will for sure be further testament to what a’hole Bibi is and what a stupid idiot Boehner is

Drip, drip, drip.

This stunt is stinking more and more, isn’t it?

And I suspect that that’s why Peter King went ballistic in his comments earlier this week. The boneheads suspect they’re going to either have egg all over them or an unhelpful spectacle.

They completely underestimated Obama. Again.

Ynet News spoke with former ambassadors Moshe Arens, Moshe Arad, Itamar Rabinovich, Shimon Peres, Danny Ayalon, Sallai Meridor, and Michael
Oren, Dermer’s immediate predecessor.

One of these things is not like the others, one of these things just doesn’t belong . . .

I confess to not being sure…Danny and Michael seem to stick out as names…Danny (Daniel) is OT and Michael is NT, right? So is it “Michael” that doesn’t belong? Man…it’s been years since I read the thing.

Obviously I’m working on the assumption that the more “traditional” sounding names the others have are also found in the OT, but I dunno…the whole litany of who begat who made my head hurt.

Or are you just focusing on Dermer being the only American-born one?

Hey, you POS Republicans, tell us that the five former Israeli ambassadors are trying to “get back at Israel” as part of an effort to fulfill “all of their liberal fantasies”; tell us that the five former ambassadors are on an “apology tour to Iran and the Arab countries.”

Oy, such a misunderstanding.

I believe there must be a way for the Likud-Republican Party to create a nuclear-armed militia made up of gullible American volunteers willing to bomb/invade Iran without involving the Democratic Party or the White House. Am I just being overly optimistic?

I assume it’s that Shimon Peres should not be called an ambassador. He was president and prime minister, among other functions, but not an ambassador.

From a link supplied by commenter @docb on the earlier thread:

And because I’ll keep posting these three action items as long as this is a live issue: I hope any Jews here have already contacted their Dem reps about this; the non-Jewish ones need to know where most of us stand, and it isn’t with Bibi. And if you haven’t yet, call your nearest Israeli consulate and voice your outrage about this political stunt; the last thing Israel needs is to become a partisan issue here. (Those calls are reportedly having a real impact back in the home office.) And finally, if you want an effective counterweight to AIPAC, look into J Street – the more support they can show, the greater their influence will be.

Bibi will double down and double down again. It’s a conservative thing. Boehner and McConnell could take this opportunity to go have a few bourbons at the White House and find some common ground that would allow them to have like, an actual record of accomplishments to run on in 2016. But they too will stay the doomed course hoping to blame their failures on the President. There’s that conservative thing again.

That’s a shame. President Obama has very good bourbon, and excellent popcorn.

A most happy Valentine’s Day to all.

I’m an American Jew - Netanyahu IS NOT the spokesman for the world’s Jews: he speaks for his government, not even for all of his Israeli co-religionists. This man is dangerous, has always been a loose cannon, has overstated his claims & overstayed his welcome. perhaps the israeli electorate will show sufficient sense to retire him to the sidelines!

You said it, schleppers; his latest claim to speak for us all is disgustingly opportunistic, and needs to blow up in his face. If you haven’t yet, please consider calling your nearest Israeli consulate and making your feelings known, as I requested above; with enough pressure from American Jews (and not just the few right-wing Jews who usually yell the loudest), Bibi may yet have to cancel that speech. Haaretz has reported that such calls are already making them nervous, so we need to keep up the pressure.

And on your hope for the election, I can only say Amen; I’ve long believed that the greatest threat to Israel’s existence is Israel’s right wing, and Netanyahu’s their most destructive PM yet – a deadly combination of Cheney’s mad militarism and Nixon’s slimy politics. May this finally be the end of the line for him.

Ironically, this is the reason that Bibi probably won’t (or at least won’t want to) cancel. If he cancels now without making up a great excuse, he will have a tremendous amount of egg on his face. But if he goes through with it, he can always claim it was a victory for him and the Jewish community, no matter what every single rational and impartial party says. That is the right-wing way. Just say it loud and long enough so that at least half the people believe it.

“…If the prime minister is perceived to be meddling in US politics…”

Too late.

We all know he is meddling in US politics, and the Republican Party is meddling in Israeli elections. This is a campaign stop.

I’ll keep it simple. Send Dermer home. Declare him persona non grata and let Bibi explain why to the Israeli electorate.

I just don’t understand the logic of Netanyahu, why take a piss at President Obama’s feet knowing that both you and Israel needs a strong ally in the US? How does this help his cause?

Netanyahu is a menace, no doubt.

But Boehner is giving him a pedestal and microphone.

The real story is Boehner’s stupidity, hubris and war-mongering.
