“But we have very little control over women who walk in the door carrying enough pre-gaming booze in their bellies to render them unconscious before the night is through.”
You could not let them in. Back when the dinosaurs roamed the earth, and I was my sorority’s social chair; drunk people were not allowed in my party’s for that exact reason. It can be difficult when people aren’t visibly drunk, but if you were stumbling up the walk, I knew that way be dragons. It’s only going to create a bad situation, in so many different possible ways.
Classy guy.
The best part is his unspoken underlying assumption that once a woman is unconscious at your party, it’s only proper that you fuck her silly.
What a total pig. I went to college, dated a frat brat, and came to loath fraternities, because they are places that give little boys the right to act like misogynist pigs. I do not know what fraternity he belonged to, but parties with copious amounts of booze were an every weekend event, and the entire aim was to get as many women as drunk as possible, so they could brag the next morning to their frat buddies about their conquests the next morning.
This is just another case of an aging frat brat blaming women because he and his little friends had no control over themselves. Of course in his world, it is always easier to blame the women, then to take any responsibility as a man for their own bad actions. Grow the hell up aging frat brat bully.
In his world, personal responsibility is required of the raped, but not of the rapist.
Wonder why that is…
Some of us were members of fraternities years ago when we were in college. Some of us have remained friends. None of us are members of an alumni association. We grew up.
For an MIT grad, this guy is not very smart. It’s also a little creepy that as a man who looks like he’s pushing 60 he’s still so involved with a fraternity system he was a part of some 40 years ago. Time to grow up, Billy. If he thinks women are walking away from these situations without consequence, he is either stupid or willfully ignorant – probably a little of both.
From HuffoPo:
In the 35 years since Bill graduated from MIT with degrees in electrical engineering and biology he has been a scientist, an engineer, a product manager, a salesman, a consultant, an entrepreneur, an author, a technology evangelist, and a venture capitalist. His early career on high-tech’s bleeding edge included the development of first generation electronic newspapers, home banking, home shopping, cable modems, multi-user videogames, wireless LANs, and wireless email, all of which became a success – for someone else a decade later. His 15 years as a venture capital investor working with early stage telecom, semiconductor, and biotech startups taught him humbleness, risk aversion, and the ability to identify ten fatal flaws out of five in any startup business plan.
In 2008 Bill began writing weekly columns for RealClearMarkets, and in 2011 Bio-IT World and Forbes.com, earning a nod as a finalist for the 2011 Hoiles Prize for excellence in American journalism. He also joined the Competitive Enterprise Institute as a Fellow in Technology and Entrepreneurship. There he and his compatriots endeavor to slow the growth of the regulatory leviathan in the futile hope that this will reduce the rate at which things are getting worse.
Bill is a frequent guest on CNBC, FOX, and CBN News where he is challenged to reduce complex economic and policy issues into thirty second sound bites. On rare occasions the BBC or local Cable TV gives him a few more minutes to develop a theme.
Achieving a new level of despondency after the 2012 presidential election, Bill has adopted Menckenism as his guiding philosophy. His stated mission as a writer, speaker, and commentator is to “Chronicle the decline and fall of entitlement democracy,” a task he pursues with a smile and a cocktail.
Entitlement Democracy, eh? In this piece on that subject, he admits to being a libertarian as well:
IOW, a selfish asshole.
Funny he mentions “defenestration”. According to this Atlantic article, people falling out of frat windows is a major problem: http://www.theatlantic.com/features/archive/2014/02/the-dark-power-of-fraternities/357580/
Also associated with drunkenness and parties, and probably also women’s fault. Feminists’ fault even!
That is also a “feature not a bug” situation.
Google “frats kicked off campus.” Looks like deaths due to too much alcohol consumption by frat members and dangerous hazing practices are the biggest culprits. It’s become quite an epidemic, actually.
“But we have very little control over women who walk in the door
carrying enough pre-gaming booze in their bellies to render them
unconscious before the night is through.”
But…you DO have some manner of control over your own wiener, right? Like, if you see an unconscious woman, you know better than to try to mount her in that state, right?
Because if you don’t, maybe you should worry less about the control of the unconscious woman and more about your own alcohol intake.
Because really, why stop at rape? Seems to me that if you find anyone, man OR woman, who is unconscious, it’s fair game to do whatever you want to do, employing your “logic.” Brand 'em, mutilate 'em, kill 'em, serves 'em right for getting so out of control with their drinking, right?
Oh, yeah, all of that’s way too violent. Better stick with just the raping. Why, that’s practically a victimless crime. I mean, they ARE only women.
How some people can be so educated and so rock stupid never ceases to amaze me.
Unfortunately, he is not aware that the “national conversation” he set off is about what a dick he is.
This guy is clearly a DB but anyone that uses the word “frat” does not know what they are talking about. Not all members are assholes.
And what a tiny dick it probably is. He’s aware of what’s going on (take a look at his Twitter feed) and like any good conservative he’s convinced that he’s the victim whose words have been misconstrued or misinterpreted, mostly by the feminists who are out to get him.
Fraternities have never encouraged responsible drinking of anyone whether male or female. Getting plastered and trying to take advantage of women sober or drunk is considered a rite of passage. Once more the idea that fraternities are being attacked by young female sluts is their fantasy. Many fraternities think a woman is asking for it just by showing up to their parties.
It is sad but I interviewed one of their future date rapists who bragged about trying to exploit young females away from home as a young adult for the first time. Now most guys in a fraternity do not rape women but unfortunately many tolerate those that do. as part of the bond of “brotherhood.”
I thought that ‘drunk women’ was the reason for the existence of college frats.
Not all frat members are assholes! Not all republicans are assholes! Not all Wall Street financial types are money grubbing assholes who would gladly destroy the American economy to make some $$$. However, the percentage who are is overwhelming.
“The Suffolk County district attorney has detailed the charges of manslaughter and hazing against the now-defunct Phi Gamma Delta fraternity in the September 1997 drinking death of MIT freshman Scott Krueger.”
Scott! What an odd name for a woman.
“The LSU chapter of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity agreed to pay $22,600 in a plea bargain. The fraternity pleaded no contest to 86 counts of purchasing alcohol for underage drinkers. (Benjamin) Wynne, who was celebrating his acceptance to the fraternity, was found dead the morning after a night of drinking at the fraternity house and at a party sponsored by the fraternity at a bar.”
And Benjamin! Damn those unisex names.
But that is exactly what the author said. If someone is visibly drunk, do not let them in. If they become drunk in the house, send them home in a cab.
What is the problem with this advice? It make 100% good sense.
