I can, having been young once, appreciate your curiosity.
However, in scientific terminology, what you did was “stupid”.

Combat and riots are things to be avoided when possible. Much like eating a ghost chili and rubbing the inside all over your eyes.

Unsurprisingly, I can’t say we were welcome.

And yet we still felt the need to insert ourselves into a moment that quite thoroughly belonged to others because we are “radical.”

Pretty dumb, but I remember being outside for the Mount Pleasant riots in DC in 91. Of course, they had spilled over into my neighborhood (Adams Morgan), we didn’t go into Mount Pleasant itself and the activity was much less lethal than this and more opportunistic. Still it’s good to get a real on the ground view as opposed to Don Lemon being a jerk.

This is so entitled and honestly makes me embarrassed as a white ally. You just went to a seriously tense situation in a poor neighborhood in a city you’re not even FROM as some kind of fun field trip. There are dozens of people, community members, activists, and journalists actually reporting and tweeting from on the ground. I have no idea what this “commentary” is supposed to contribute.
