Discussion: Following Trump's Tantrum, Bipartisan Group Will Meet With WH On Spending

Will the people Congress must get a buy-in from on the budget even have the authority to do so? They’re almost all just a bunch of actors.

I guess the co-author (in name only) of “The Art of the Deal” will be absent due to a preexisting tee time?

They are entering the “NO COUGHING” zone??

"Unless Democrats show a willingness to negotiate and come off their unrealistic and unaffordable spending increases, then these meetings are just summer theater and things won’t change much…” Which is shorthand for “Accept what we want or we will shut the government down and blame it on you.” We have see this play before. If the Republicans were serious about a compromise budget, they would be negotiating with the Democrats now and not with each other. My suspicion is that the WH is ramping up a potential conflict with Iran to bypass the impending budget cuts to the military while still imposing cuts on the domestic side.

‘Unrealistic spending’…uh yeah. The DEMOCRATS aren’t the ones that have ballooned the debt/deficit you lying wimps. STAND UP FOR YOUR COUNTRY.

Democrats, simply state if Trump is not present, and remain present, there will be no negotiations.

Notably absent from the meetings? President Trump

Well, he usually doesn’t stay around very long anyway. Certainly not after anything of substance starts to be discussed. No focus, no knowledge, no interest, and it just makes his big brain hurt and keeps him away from the TV and Twitter (his 2 favorite T’s after Trump and treason).

How do they even say this kind of crap with a straight face?

Pelosi should just pass the necessary budget bills and let Mitch take the blame for refusing to let them go forward.

(I would love to see the budget include no funding for presidential appointees in contempt, and no funding for census-taking including a citizenship question.)

Automatic cuts this fall, but war-whooping is ramping up again.
Republicans are going into this divided. So what do they do? Attack and blame Dems.

Art Laffer and his Medal of Freedom will be the featured speaker to explain the logical extension of his time tested economic theory. As tax rates approach zero government revenue approaches infinity. If Congress would act responsibly all the money currently stashed in tax haven countries would be repatriated, the job creators would step to the forefront to create the greatest economic expansion in US history, and your favorite president would make good on his campaign promise to MAGA and ascend to his rightful place at the right hand of Reagan. Alas, unless Democrats come off their unrealistic, fact based position these meetings will just be summer theater and things won’t change much.

Since tax cuts increase revenue according to the GOP, they should just cut taxes to 0 and watch the money pour in.

As I recall, the reason for this is Republican debt-ceiling hostage taking during the Obama administration. I applaud speaker Pelosi’s ball-squeezing.

Will there be a discussion of the expenses for nepotism line items? How about the bail out the cultists after we’ve fucked them with tariffs and the write more checks to cover orange lies line items? Unrealistic spending indeed.

“Spending meeting with the other side? Who said anything about a spending meeting with the other side, sir? We were going out for beer and a round of putt-putt golf, and we know you hate golfing anywhere but on your own properties, so we figured you wouldn’t want to join in. That’s the only reason you weren’t told. Oh, we would never dream of…”

Actually, the House budget bills are moving forward. The problem is two-fold - the sequester law still exists and we’re quickly approaching the debt limit.

The sequester law would force draconian cuts across the board, while Republicans want to limit the cuts to domestic programs that don’t benefit big corporations. (Democrats should run on this - tax cuts for billionaires but cuts impacting the elderly and the poor)

And, thanks to the billionaires’ tax cut, we’re nearing the debt limit. If we default on the debt the economy will probably immediately go into recession - but trump is probably incapable of understanding that this wouldn’t be like just another trump bankruptcy.

trump’s aides should be hammering home that a shutdown, cuts to domestic programs, or a default on our debt would send trump’s polls even lower - and Republicans in Congress would be either be forced to go down with him or force a start to the impeachment process themselves to try and save their hides from trump’s crash-and-burn.

I think they are serious about a compromise budget. Or at least the GOPers who realize they are campaigning next year are.

The WH, on the other hand, wants a shutdown/budget fight because Trump views it as him fighting…nevermind the evidence that he came out of the last one looking pathetically weak, and is heading into this one looking even weaker (He is being excluded from the discussion by his own aides!!!).

The Dotard will use Pelosi’s frequent coughing & throat clearing as an excuse to wreck budget negotiations… “She’s always coughing while I’m trying to make a beautiful budget deal. So rude!”

She need only stifle her cough for 15 minutes. Trump can get anything done in 15 minutes.
