If Scott and DeSantis win tonight, they should enjoy it while they can. Might be the last statewide races Republicans win for a while in Florida.
Count on the GOP putting a lot of effort into developing ways to subvert & obstruct the implementation of this.

Yep. Florida is where democrat dreams go to die. Let’s face it. Old people love the GOP. They have no trouble with racism, sexism, and being afraid of immigrants. They’re also viciously against any policies that keep them from stealing from their grandkids.

Seriously, that’s a good thing, and fairly surprising from Florida. It’s never made sense to me why you should lose your rights as a citizen forever after paying your debt to society.
This should be a very big and very positive development in the long term.
I had read recently (sorry, lost the link, wish I could cite it) that there were quite a few new retirement/55+ communities going up in Florida, populated with Trump-loving old white retirees, and there was so much of this going on that it would probably offset other demographic trends. Looks like they may have been correct.
Desantis and the GOP are going to fight this tooth and nail…you can be sure about that. It will be slow-walked administratively and turned into a bureaucratic nightmare on purpose. Gillum was, unfortunately, key to making this mean something in the short-term.
This is the single most consequential vote of the entire midterm. FL must now be considered “leans D”. Gillum would certainly have won had this been in place, as about 20% of all black voters in FL are disenfranchised, and will have their voting rights restored IF IT IS RETROACTIVE (of which I know little).
