Discussion: Florida Suspect's Red Flags Weren't Enough To Stop Gun Buy

But if he were Muslim?

Or brown/black?

Red Flag City…

Stripping gun rights from someone with anger issues is likely to inflame that person. That’s a big disincentive to using a red flag law. Holding up a red flag makes you a target.

As long as the mentally ill back Trump,he doesn’t care what they buy or who they shoot.

Remember this from the Repubs?

“During three-decades worth of sexual harassment allegations, Harvey Weinstein lined the pockets of Democrats to the tune of three-quarters of a million dollars,” said RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel in a
statement. “If Democrats and the DNC truly stand up for women like they say they do, then returning this dirty money should be a no-brainer.”

So, it only makes sense to stand up for students to:

DEMAND THAT ALL NRA CONTRIBUTIONS TO POLITICIANS BE DONATED TO CHARITY!! NOW!!

Interesting that the red flag laws have (statistically) prevented suicides as well as murders. Makes complete sense.

Btw, involuntary commitment to a mental institution is really difficult. Many commitments are nominally voluntary (where the person being committed is convinced/coerced to sign themselves in for treatment) and so wouldn’t trigger a loss of gun rights… Warm feeling.

A good first step to enacting useful and sensible gun legislation would be to begin permitting the public to bring all lawfully owned guns into the Supreme Court building, the Capitol, and the White House.

If guns improve safety and the current reading of the Second Amendment is so inviolable, our Congress people, Senators, SCOTUS justices, and White House should have no trouble with that. And I think the NRA would fight for it and punish its detractors, as well.

“The warnings around [him] seemed to flash like neon signs: expelled from school, fighting with classmates, a fascination with weapons and hurting animals, disturbing images and comments posted to social media…”

But the Electoral College went right ahead and voted for him, anyway.

If these massacres happened in the private schools where the pampered go, or the names of the dead are politicians kids and family members or NRA families, Then the attention span of these politicians might grow into maybe like a < Federal Law> concerning who and what type of weapons the general public can play with. They would write up a bill and pass it in hours regardless of the NRA.
There was a reason for the National Firearms Act of 1934.
It needs to be updated bigtime and soon.

Ah. So it’s Rick Scott who needs to resign forthwith.

Can someone ask Rand Paul if someone is allowed to shoot an officer for trying to take their gun under a court order?

Exactly maximus. ONE guy wears exploding shoes that did not explode (thank goodness) and now, over 10 years later we ALL must still remove our shoes and have them x-rayed before we can board a plane.

If there was an assault weapons ban the presence or absence of red flags would have been immaterial in this case. Do the Democrats support an assault weapons ban, or is that considered “bad in the purple states” and therefore not worth standing up for?

Not to mention NRA headquarters.

Shouldn’t Gov. Scott resign over these failures? That is the standard he is using for the FBI, isn’t it?

What? That makes little sense.

Sooo . . . rather than taking their guns away from them and making them angry, we should make them happy by giving them more guns?

I do have to say that being expelled or fighting with classmates by themselves would likely not be a warning sign.

The thing that gets me is people are aware of this individual as were the authorities. But individually, they could not really act. Not including the fact that the FBI failed to follow through. The Red Flag concept is good and could be elevated. Possibly with firm thresholds that once met, require action.

So, about this “FBI didn’t follow through” thing? What federal crime would they have been investigating? Because last time I checked, that was where their jurisdiction begins and ends.
