Discussion: Florida Recount Battle Goes Back To Court Over Mail-In Ballots

What about the emailed and faxed ballots in the panhandle? Those are without question illegal.

Lawyers for Democrats will ask a federal judge to set aside the state law mandating that mailed-in votes be thrown out if the signature on the envelope doesn’t match the signature on file with election authorities.

That must be a brand-new state law, or else I’m sure these “lawyers for Democrats” would have asked long ago that it be set aside …

Ok , you write two checks - neither signature will match the original one .

I vote in person. But if I did vote via mail, I am pretty sure that my ballot would be tossed according to the above mentioned law. My signature has changed dramatically since I first registered to vote in my current district 25 years ago. Even going in person, I get butterflies when I sign my name next to my signature on file. Luckily for me, I live in a smallish town and we pretty much all know each other.

The Daily Show’s take on the Florida Recount -

How about some background on your claim, like the following?

“Bay County allowed some hurricane victims to vote by fax or email. That’s not allowed.”

I’d be curious to know why, if you live in such a small town what’s holding you from going and giving the voter registration office your most recent legal signature?

Honestly, I never thought about doing that.

I vote in every election (and even though I get “butterflies” about my signature), I have never had a problem.

My signature on my voter registration is 40 years old. Up until this year we signed the voter roll book ( actual paper bound booklet) each time we voted. Now we sign in electronically and that signature doesn’t match anything I sign with an ink pen.

Same here. Back in 2008 was the last time my mother voted (she has Alzheimers), they pointed out to her that her name on her voter registration doesn’t match her signature. When she registered 58 years ago she wasn’t married and used the initial of her middle name. Since she married in 1954 she uses her maiden last name. She voted in every election and they were just then in 2008 pointing out the discrepancy.

Is there a count of how many mail-in ballots state-wide were tossed for these dodgy “signature match problems” claimed by GOP officials? Thousands? Tens of thousands? Hundreds of thousands?
