Discussion for article #223247

Safety off? Check
Round in the chamber? Check
OK. Let’s roll.

Okay, will somebody explain how a key ring can disengage the safety, then pull the trigger? Oh, and the round ends up in the trigger guard?

The bullet was lodged in the rifle’s trigger guard

Huh?

No more keys, no more belts, no more rings, no more pants. From now on all officers will be naked except for tight-fitting long underwear in the winter months. Anything that might catch on a trigger is banned.
Now let us pray for the trigger in this incident.
Lord, we don’t understand why you would allow our guns to come under scrutiny like this, but we pray that it never happens again.
In firearms’ name, amen.

Coke owed.

If you question the official story, you’re an anti-American gun grabber. No more questions.

According to a statement released Wednesday, the AR-15 carried by Officer Timothy Huggins was discharged by a key ring attached to Huggins’ duty belt when it became lodged inside the trigger guard of the rifle.

Shoddy re-reporting. The above is from the linked article. “It” refers to the key ring, not the bullet.

Ahhhh… that makes sense.

Thank you.

The only thing that can stop a bad key ring with a gun is a good key ring with a gun.

Why don’t we ban key rings!?

/snark.

Except it’s not snark. That’s exactly their solution.

See, there’s no problem with every Tom, Dick, and Harry possessing firearms, as long as they all get proper gun safety instruction. If you just give them the same training the professionals get, we’ll all be perfectly safe.

Oh, wait.

Wish I could quadruple-like this.

There is no way this story is correct. A bullet can not be discharged by a gun and then get caught in a trigger guard. That’s like saying the pitcher threw the ball over home plate by throwing it toward second base.

Maybe the key ring got caught in the trigger guard? Thats the only way this makes sense.

And this is a problem - if folks want to write about guns and the reckless use of them (which more people need to write about), they have to understand the basics so they will have credibility.

What is a beat cop doing carrying a AR-15 on his shift? Locked in his trunk, maybe. But carrying it around?

What has this nation become?

…and there will be daily pee-tests for the presence of testosterone, ED enhancers .

The bullet was lodged in the rifle’s trigger guard, and no injuries were reported.

OK, somebody explain to me how a fired bullet …which logically exits the weapon from the end of the barrel … gets lodged in the trigger guard?`
And, how does a key ring managed to get inserted into the rifles trigger guard such that the weapon can fire? This explanation smells.

Read my comment above. Oh and @caitlinmacneal, could you PLEASE fix that?

“The bullet was lodged in the rifle’s trigger guard, and no injuries were reported.”

Sorry there Jack, but the above direct quote from the article clearly states that a bullet was lodged in the trigger guard. Admittedly it makes more sense that the key ring got stuck there but it isn’t what was reported. Shoddy reporting of a mixed up poorly thought out excuse for stupid handling of a highly dangerous lethal weapon in the hands of a supposedly trained individual… sheesh!
