Discussion for article #233926

The bar in question was probably the Florida Republican Bar Association

Gee, I wonder if the Volusia County jail is integrated?

It’s lucky for all three victims he didn’t have a firearm.

He really said, “This bar is not for blacks?”

It’s a perverse sort of progress when even violent racists don’t use the N-word.

Political correctness at its most absurd.

Stand Ya Ground! The possibilities!

In light of his last name, I’m going to go out on a limb here and guess that a segregated jail wouldn’t exactly help him in this instance.

Looks like this was handled well.

The patrons didn’t just let it happen and law enforcement went with a hate crime.

I’ve seen that surname spelling used by non Hispanics if that’s what you mean.

B-b-b-b-b-but the Supreme Court said there is no racism in the south anymore!

Thankfully, Mr. Hodge wasn’t shot by the police responding to a report of an alleged assault involving a black man.

“This bar is not for blacks”? What is this? Breaking news from 1940?

What a shame that something like this should continue to happen, let alone make news, in 2015.

Please, Suh, the correct word is nigras!

Assuming the man was speaking for the bar’s owner: Rand Paul supports the owner’s right to discriminate on the basis of race, correct?

Or has Rand flip-flopped on his disdain for the Civil Rights Act?

Cue conservatives saying this is discrimination towards a white man, a la “if it had been a black guy attacking a white guy Obama would have given him a medal!”

Hey Jason, Your cell mate is black and BIG and muscle bound. Ya gonna back sass him as well??

Don’t worry, FOX will rail about how the man’s 1st Amendment rights were validated and there will be a GOFUNDME to cover bail and get a great lawyer. And when the man walks, it’ll be because Hodge caused the whole thing for being in the bar and not leaving when Cuellar warned him to. You think I’m kidding? You only wish I was.

And if a white person had done the same thing to Cuellar, saying “This bar is not for Latinos,” Cuellar would suddenly be the illegal alien.

Maybe he was just drunk?
But this is Florida and I’ve been there and seen that. They still hate on blacks like it was pre civil rights days. My host used the n word out loud and in public without blinking.
I said hello and good morning to a couple of black guys on the front porch of a gas station and they looked at me like I was crazy. I don’t believe they were used to white people talking politely to them or at all.
This was about ten years ago.
