Discussion: Florida Governor Urges Residents To Evacuate: 'This Is A Catastrophic Storm'

Shorter Idiot: I want my $15Billion from Trump And Tax Cuts.

“This is a catastrophic storm. We’ve never seen this before.”

To the Governor who won’t allow “global climate change” to be mentioned:

“Blessed are they who accept scientific inference and have not yet seen.”

Rush said warnings about Irma were a liberal hoax. Then he left himself. Tell me that’s not something illegal along the lines of depraved indifference.

Cuba is getting absolutely hammered on its north coast. Here’s hoping those folks make it OK. Not that our media seem to care much.

My concern is for all the low information rubes who believe every utterance of that blowhard and who now may be in harm’s way because of Rush"s epic and exceedingly dangerous lies.

edit

Weather Channel just said water temperatures in the Florida Strait are 91° … that’s ninety one degrees which is rocket fuel for a hurricane. And so how did that water get that warm?? Hmm? And how much energy does it take to raise an enormous volume of sea water by 2-3 degrees? The more I do thought experiments the scarier this gets.
Weather Channel just said some areas may see 15 feet of storm surge… I think I’m gonna step back from this ledge for a while…

And you know as well as I do when that 15-foot storm surge goes over their houses and they’re clinging to the tops of palm trees they’ll tell their rescuers it was all Obama’s fault. They’re literally too stupid to live.

Yet somehow they find their way to voting booths… Eugenics …time for another thought experiment…
Annnd stock up on orange juice.
west palm beach expecting 4 ft storm surge. That’s enough to flood Rush’s house :scream: but might not be enough to affect trump’s golf courses or Mar-a-Lago. But wait…(snicker) I forgot wave action (schadenfreude attack).

That’s all well and good but has the state ensured the people who can’t leave on their own have been evacuated? It doesn’t do much good to lecture someone in a wheelchair about leaving if they don’t have transportation, etc.

I’m curious too see what the impact will be on the health care system. A sizable number of Floridians second only to Texas are uninsured and a sizable number fall in between eligibility for coverage under Medicaid and Medicare Will they be overwhelming hospitals and clinics?
Both governors were adamant about expanding Medicaid under the ACA. Of course they fall to realize everyone is better off having coverage so when a natural disaster hits hospitals can handle those impacted.
When the ACA was passed there should have been more of a campaign outlining the nature disaster and national security implications of having a sizable population of uninsured.

Rick Scott should really borrow one of Lisa Murkowski’s wigs. The “not quite hairy, not quite bald” look makes him look like a James Carville reject :flushed:

And while he’s at it maybe borrow a heart, conscience, and brain.

Just saw a video of people fleeing the Keys and talking about the ones who stayed to ride it out. God help them now, is all I can say. The highest point in the whole chain is 18 feet above sea level.

Your headline is inaccurate. It implies that he is telling all residents to evacuate. That is not the case. People in mandatory evacuation zones had to evacuate. Other residents, like myself, have been instructed to prepare for the hurricane and remain in place.

I was at an event last night with family and we took a selfie. A young man offered to take a picture for us. We thanked him. As we were seated, I looked at his t-shirt, it read : The Earth is Flat.
If I recall correctly, even the Flat Earth Society believes in climate change.

Good luck! Keep posting if you can and let us know how it’s going.

There already is widespread damage from Irma, with at least 22 deaths so far reported. Some islands are wiped out from the Cat-5 storm. Even though Irma has dropped to the now Cat-4 (it has increased from the Cat-3 it was), the storm is huge in size. All of Florida is being affected. We have lived in southeast Florida for over 20 years. This is the first time I have seen a storm this large. Ordinarily, with the forecast cone that Irma now has, we would not be feeling any effects of the storm. However, we have already experienced tropical storm winds (two of our palm trees have fallen), a constant downpour and flooding, power losses (temporary so far), and were awakened at 4 Am with the blare of our Iphone warning us to take cover because of a tornado warning.

I fear for the Keys and the west coast of the state. Tampa is expected to see a “massive” storm surge. By the time this is all over, there will be catastrophic damage in Florida. I just hope and pray there are no more deaths, but I woudn’t be surprised if there are.

And Governor Penis-head still denies climate change.

Not to my knowledge. Most flat earthers are crazy fundamentalists who don’t believe in climate change. I have an in-law that not only believes the earth is flat, but she also believes that there are no planets. Why? The Bible does not reference planets, so she believes they are stars. This is not an uneducated woman - she has a masters degree in education, of all things. She also believes every conspiracy that she reads on the internet or on Alex Jones site. I can only surmise she is mentally ill. It just confounds me.

I’d actually never heard Skeletor speak until I watched a storm update yesterday. He’s every bit as shifty and duplicitous in his manner as I expected.
